Current TV fires star commentator Olbermann

David Gregory and Keith Olbermann attend the NBC Universal summer press tour in Beverly Hills(Reuters) - Current TV said on Friday it fired star news anchor Keith Olbermann after one year with the progressive public affairs network, accusing him of breaching his contract and trying to sabotage the TV channel. But Olbermann, in a series of Twitter postings on Friday, fired back at his former bosses saying Current's statements were untrue and vowing to take legal action. (read more...)

SAG, AFTRA members approve merger by wide margin
LOS ANGELES (TheWrap.com) - The members of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists voted to approve the merger of the two labor unions on Friday. Eighty-six percent of the AFTRA ballots submitted were in favor of the merger, while 82 percent of SAG ballots endorsed the merger. "The merger of SAG and AFTRA is approved," SAG President Ken Howard almost yelled. (read more...)
