AFi’s “Ask Matty” Mattel Q&A Answers for April 2nd, 2012

Twice a month the gang from Mattel are kind enough to answer five questions from AFi readers.  The Mattel marketing and PR team, have replied with the answers to our latest round of questions that AFi readers have posted in our forums.

If you have Mattel  questions make sure to post them in the thread for the next round.

Let’s get to the questions and the answers!

Q1. Based on some of your recent answers on MattyCollector.com is sounds like Mattel Boys Toys have been split up into a Collector group and a Retail group.  Can you give us a role call of those 2 groups and who covers what?

A1. Scott “Toy Guru” Neitlich oversees all of the Mattycollector lines including MOTU, GB, the Hoverboard, Voltron and Club Infinite Earths. Other brand managers handle the retail DC lines. We will leave it to them to make introductions as they see fit. It is up to each brand manager to work with online fans based on their brand’s needs and their time.

Q2.  Is Superboy prime the standard buck or does he use a new smaller buck?
A2. He is based off of the teen buck with armor.

Q3.  Having now gotten the news that Platinum and Tin will be in a 2 pack, is Tin supposed to be Tina’s accessory, or, like the other metal men in the line, will they come with character specific add ons? Thanks.

A3.  For Platinum/Tin, no new accessory or clip on like previous metal men had. Tin is the accessory to Platinum.

Q4. So what is the deal now with the retail DC All Stars line?  Most retailers canceled previous orders and set up a new solicitation for the re-worked wave 1, but aren’t taking pre-orders for the cancelled? re-worked? Series 2 and 3.

A4.  We have an announcement coming shortly, but due to the order cancellation, word has gotten out faster than we can get this announcement up. The All Star concept was a good idea but executed Band-Aid style. We’ve decided to hold tight until we can create the right line with the right packaging, etc. … For now, we’re going to finish up DC Universe with one last wave.

[Editors Note- I'm waiting on a clarification for that answer.  If that means the re-worked DC All-Stars Wave 1 is now considered DCUC Wave 21 or if there is another Wave 21 coming that has not been announced yet.  Will update if/when I get that answer.]

Q5.  Since MOTUC relies upon tool re-use, has Granamyr been thought out/designed as dragon “buck” body so that characters like Sorrowful (the cowardly dragon from the Filmation She-ra cartoon) could be made from the same mold?

A5. Yes, we have thought about other uses including a green repaint if the red one sells well.

If you’d like to ask a question for the  May 1st submission then feel free to post your questions in our Mattel Q&A question submissions thread!   Remember they can be about any Mattel product including MOTUC, Ghostbusters,WWE any of the Mattel DC lines, Voltron and Cars. Twice a month we draw our submission question directly from the ones that AFi readers post.

You can submit new questions in this thread.

You can find our past Q&A’s here.  And you can discuss the answers on our Mattel board.

Thanks again to the team at Mattel for taking time to answer our questions!
