AFi’s “Ask Matty” Mattel Q&A Answers for October 1st, 2012

Twice a month the gang from Mattel are kind enough to answer five questions from AFi readers.  The Mattel marketing and PR team, have replied with the answers to our latest round of questions that AFi readers have posted in our forums.

Mattel will take a short break from ‘Ask Matty’ the week of October 15th for New York Comic Con.

Here is our latest round of questions and their answers:

Q1.  2 part question: 1. Any chance for a re-issue of Young Justice Stealth Kid Flash and Stealth Aqualad so that I can finally finish my Hall of Justice? 2. Do you want to buy an unfinished Hall of Justice – only missing two pieces!

A1.  Definitely not. The failed pre order of the YJ 2 pack demonstrated there are not enough YJ customers to consider something like this.

Q2.  There are rumors that there were 6 other DC Retro-Action figures that Dr. Mego helped Mattel design for the Retro-action line before the line was canceled.  Would you be able to share the proposed line up of who eles we might have got in that line had it gone another 2 waves?

A2.  Sorry, we can not comment on unreleased licensed product.

Q3.  Do you know roughly the timeline of when you will show/announce ‘Man of Steel’ products?  I’ve heard you said there will most likely not be any “Superman Classics” 6″ companion line, but is there still the possibility of Movie Masters figures?

A3.  Ideally we will show this at NYTFin Feb 2013.

Q4.  It seems like every time there is a MOUTC figure that gets some part assembled incorrectly (Robot Shoulders, Stinkor fore-arms, Frosta fore-arms) the MOTUC fans want to burn the internet to the ground.  Has there been any thought in asking the Four Horsemen to sculpt those parts symetrical so it never happens again?

A4.  We don’t want to force the Horsemen to compromise their sculpts at all. We are always trying to tighten QC, but when you have figures hand made, assembled and painted there will always be some errors.

Q5.  The recent pre-sale for the 6″ Young Justice 2-pack did not meet the minimum order and therefore will not be manufactured.  Even though this one set did not move forward is Mattel still open to this system of using a set-time pre-order for one-off or canceled items?

A5.  Yes, although this item did not move forward it doesn’t close the door to trying this for other items like Castle Grayskull which will be up for pre order in Fall 2012.

If you’d like to ask a question for the  Sept. 1st submission then feel free to post your questions in our Mattel Q&A question submissions thread!   Remember they can be about any Mattel product including MOTUC, Ghostbusters, WWE any of the Mattel DC lines, Voltron and Cars. Twice a month we draw our submission question directly from the ones that AFi readers post.

You can submit new questions in this thread.

You can find our past Q&A’s here.  And you can discuss the answers on our Mattel board.

Thanks again to the team at Mattel for taking time to answer our questions!
