Amazing Heroes Are Reborn!

You may be familiar with Fresh Monkey Fiction’s retro styled toyline from a few years back called Amazing Heroes. It was brought to plastic life via Kickstarter and featured primarily public domain comic characters such as the Original Dare-devil, Amazing Man, Stardust the Super Wizard as well as a few more recent licensed characters such as Madman and Captain Action. The toys came out wonderfully and are bright, colorful additions to any comic book fans figure collection.

The fans spoke up and, while the retro styled figures were fun, what they really wanted were modern style 1:18 scale figures with more articulation. Fresh Monkey Fiction owner, Bill Murphy, went to work and began planing the next phase in the evolution of Amazing Heroes! A new Kickstarter has just launched featuring a lineup of awesome comic book characters in the modern 1:18 scale format. Only, this time around, there’s more licensed characters in the mix spotlighting some fan favorite characters from a variety of top notch creators like Mike Allred’s Madman, Jim Starlin’s Dreadstar, Erik Larsen’s Savage Dragon, Mike Grell’s Jon Sable and more! Many of the characters in the lineup hail from the 80s and 90s which was a glorious and expansive time for independent comics (i.e. publishers besides Marvel and DC). I personally started reading comics in the mid-70s beginning with Marvel, moving into DC and then the 80s indy comics revolution hit with Mirage and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, as well as companies such as First, Comico, Eclipse and even Dark Horse Comics. It was an exciting time to be a reader, but if you wanted toys of these great new characters who were populating your local comics shop you were pretty much out of luck.

After the Marvel license moved from Toy Biz to Hasbro in 2007, Toy Biz (now calling itself Marvel Toys) saw the potential in some of these independent characters and launched their Legendary Comic Book Heroes 6″ action figure line which featured characters like Madman, Conan, Judge Dredd, Savage Dragon and many more. Sadly, the line was canceled after two series leaving a lot of planned characters unmade.

But, now, the independent comic characters are getting their shot again with the new Amazing Heroes Reborn line! This line is a dream come true for me as I am primarily a 1:18 figure collector and these characters are some of my all time favorites. So, to get them produced in my favorite scale is well, AMAZING!

If you want to see these figures make it into production, you can do your part by pledging in the Kickstarter! It just began and has reached over $25,000 in just too days! That’s great, but the project has a lofty $150,000 funding goal. Making toys is expensive! And, personally, I need the campaign to hit the $240,000 mark to unlock the Flaming Carrot stretch goal!

Keep watching this space right here at Action Figure Insider for more information on the campaign and these characters! And be sure to follow Fresh Monkey Fiction on social media. And be sure to search Amazing Heroes Reborn on Kickstarter.com to read all about the campaign and pledge your support!
