Early Look – Mattel’s DC Signature Collection LEAD of the Metal Men

I don’t think there were many of us that started collecting the original 6″ Mattel Batman line who could have predicted that it would eventually lead to us getting the Metal Men as articulated figures.   We already have Iron, Gold and Mercury from the retail DCUC Line.  We know that Platinum and Tim will be coming later in the line as a 2-pack.

Lead will be the 2nd quarterly over-sized figure in the 2012 Club Infinite Earths subscription.

Lead is built on the Collect-and-Connect Darkseid buck.  Some think this buck is too tall.  Lead traditionally is drawn to be much wider than the rest of the team, not necessarily that much taller.   Unfortunately Mattel doesn’t have a full buck inbetween the over sized and the regular size.   The Etrigan/Bizarro upper body would work well, but there’s not plain proportionate legs for that torso, so they had to go with the tooling they had.   It still very much works and creates an imposing presence for the team.   It’s a lot of fun putting this team together for the first time as articulated figures.  Previous to Mattel the only way to get the Metal Men were as a now hard to fin DC Direct PVC boxed set.

Lead does not have the die-cast metal hands that the previous Metal Men had, also he does not have any of the clip-on accessories.  Lead’s tunic is created as a rubber over piece that is shaped more like a bib and skirt so that he retains all of his articulation.

Lead will be available to non-subscribers on MattyCollector.com.

This sample was provided by Mattel.
