Everything We Know About Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Part 4

Netflix's Riverdale sister-show, The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina, will be ending after Part 4.

Sadly, Netflix's The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be coming to an end after the release of Part 4--which is technically the second half of the second season--later this year, but there's no sense wallowing in the loss. After all, in a show like Sabrina, full of blink-and-you'll-miss-it plot twists and reveals, taking your eyes off the screen for even a second means you might miss something major, be it a kiss or a betrayal or, you know, the summoning of eldritch forces to wipe Sabrina's hometown off the map.

You know how these things tend to go.

The Riverdale sister-show may not be able to formally crossover with Archie and the gang thanks to some network complications (Sabrina being a Netflix show and Riverdale living on The CW), but the spirit of the campy, over-the-top teenage melodrama is alive and well in Greendale. While Archie and Jughead square off against gangs, corrupt politicians, and their town's dark secrets, Sabrina and her friends, aka the Fright Club, dig deep into the weird and wild world of witchcraft, literally traveling between Earth and Hell to cause all kinds of problems for Greendale's population. And they do this while trying to do totally normal teenage things like attend high school and try out for cheerleading.

All three parts of Sabrina have seen the teenage witch go up against (and ultimately defeat) some of the most powerful cosmic forces imaginable--even the literal devil, who turned out to secretly be Sabrina's birth father--but Part 4 is primed to make the stakes even higher. The Old Gods, or the "Eldritch Terrors," are headed for Greendale and the crew is going to have to figure out a way to stop them from destroying absolutely everything. There's just one catch: No one is quite sure how you're supposed to kill a god.

Despite that, there are some things we do know about Sabrina's highly anticipated Part 4. Let's break down what we've been able to gather.

What is the release date?

All eight episodes of the show will hit Netflix on December 31.

Who's returning?

The entire cast will be reprising their roles in Part 4, which includes:

  • Kiernan Shipka as Sabrina Spellman
  • Miranda Otto as Aunt Zelda
  • Lucy Davis as Aunt Hilda
  • Chance Perdomo as Ambrose
  • Jaz Sinclair as Roz
  • Lachlan Watson as Theo
  • Ross Lynch as Harvey
  • Richard Coyle as Faustus Blackwood
  • Tati Gabrielle as Prudence
  • Michelle Gomez as Lady Satan/Lilith/Ms. Wardwell
  • Luke Cook as Lucifer Morningstar
  • Gavin Leatherwood as Nick Scratch
  • Jonathan Whitesell as Robin Goodfellow
  • Sam Corlett as Caliban

What's it about?

First thing's first, you may need a refresher on how Part 3 ended. If that's the case, strap in. It's a very weird one.

We last left Greendale in a pretty precarious spot. There was a time-jump of sorts after Sabrina was entombed in stone in Hell that showed a future after decades had gone by and the Green Man had "pollinated" the town, turning everyone into Last Of Us-flavored flower zombies. Everyone Sabrina knew or loved (except her cousin Ambrose) had died or been mutated. But all was not lost! Thanks to some funky time travel, Sabrina from the future was able to travel back and take her past self's place, armed with knowledge of the plant-based apocalypse.

While all this time traveling did prevent the world from falling to the Green Man and his cultists, it also created a time paradox in which there are two Sabrinas, one from the future who traveled back and one from the present who is actually supposed to be here. And, in natural Sabrina fashion, they decide to team up and try to have their cake and eat it too by sending one Sabrina to take the throne of Hell while the other ones goes back to Greendale to pretend like nothing happened. So that's a whole problem that will need to be dealt with.

But there are more issues afoot. While everyone was watching the dust clear from the near-miss with the plant zombies, Faustus Blackwood was able to sneakily steal the egg of the "Deep One" he summoned early in Part 3, and use it to summon the Eldritch Terrors. According to Netflix's official synopsis, combating the Eldritch Terrors, all of which have names like The Weird, The Returned, and The Darkness, will be Part 4's main conflict.

Will there be a Part 5?

Unfortunately, Netflix announced in July that The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina had been canceled, making Part 4 the series finale.

Did COVID delays affect production?

Sort of. Production on Part 4 actually wrapped back in February of 2020 and it was shot immediately after Part 3. However, Ross Lynch (Harvey) explained in an interview with NME that there would have likely been 10 more episodes to the show prior to its cancelation, had COVID not shut down production.

What are the episode titles?

While we don't have individual synopses just yet, we have the titles of all 8 episodes of Part 2.

  • Chapter Twenty-Nine: The Eldritch Dark
  • Chapter Thirty: The Uninvited
  • Chapter Thirty-One: The Weird One
  • Chapter Thirty-Two: The Imp of the Perverse
  • Chapter Thirty-Three: Deus Ex Machina
  • Chapter Thirty-Four: The Returned
  • Chapter Thirty-Five: The Endless
  • Chapter Thirty-Six: At the Mountains of Madness

What about the Fright Club?

Despite the near-miss on the very, very bleak future that time traveling Sabrina was able to circumvent, the Fright Club (Sabrina, Roz, Harvey, and Theo) is totally fine--and have actually gained some new blood. Robin Goodfellow, the hobgoblin formerly part of Professor Carcosa's Phantasmagoria (the pagan coven responsible for the Green Man debacle), is expected to be the crew's fifth member in Part 4.

What about everyone's relationships?

While Sabrina might not be able to formally crossover with Riverdale beyond namedrops and winks, it still carries the grand Riverdale tradition of non-stop teenage break-ups and make-ups, and Season 4 is likely to be no different. Sabrina and her on-again-off-again boyfriend, Nick Scratch, ended Part 3 very much in the break-up phase, but there may still be hope for them in the future. Meanwhile, Harvey and Roz seem to be doing pretty okay in their (somewhat awkward, given Harvey and Sabrina's history together) relationship.

Also, Theo's hobgoblin crush, Robin, has decided to stay in Greendale so we can expect to see more from the two of them in Part 4.

In the adult relationships corner, we can expect to see Zelda and Mambo Marie's connection develop further, and hopefully with a bit less high school-style drama. There's also Lucifer and Lilith to keep in mind, who don't have what anyone would call a real love connection, but Lilith is currently carrying Lucifer's unborn son, which will no doubt come into play down the line--probably to challenge Sabrina's right to the throne of Hell.
