Fantastic Beasts 3 Is Finally Moving Forward After Delays

While Harry Potter fans only had to wait two years between the first two movies in the spin-off Fantastic Beasts series, it's taking a while longer for the third movie to get here. The film was originally set to shoot this summer, but after some delay, it has now been reported that it will finally start production in Spring 2020.

According to Deadline, Warner has greenlit Fantastic Beasts 3 ahead of its November 2021 release date. The film will start shooting next spring and will once more star Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore, and Johnny Depp as Gellert Grindelwald. Other actors set to return include Ezra Miller, Alison Sudol, Dan Fogler, and Katherine Waterston.

Deadline also states that Jessica Williams, who appeared briefly in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald as Professor Eulalie "Lally" Hicks, will have a more prominent role this time round. David Yates, who helmed the previous two films and four Harry Potter movies, is set to return to the director's chair. While plot details are currently underwraps, the movie will reportedly be set in Rio de Janeiro.

Production on Fantastic Beasts 3 has been delayed twice--it was originally set to start this summer, and was then moved to the fall. In January, it was reported that production had been moved to allow the film's creative teams more time to work on it. While The Crimes of Grindelwald made $648.8 million worldwide, it was still less than Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them's $814 million gross. The movie also received very mixed reviews.
