The Hollywood Reporter explained that Kosinski is in "early negotiations" to helm the project, so you shouldn't consider it to be a done deal just yet.

Plot details for the Gran Turismo movie are being kept under wraps for now, but previous comments from Polyphony Digital boss Kazunori Yamauchi have suggested it will follow a video game player who later becomes a real-world racer.

However, The Hollywood Reporter notes that was the plot for a previous script. New rumors suggest that Kosinski will be working on a new script altogether, though further details are not available. No release date or cast details for the project have been announced.

"Kosinski has been itching for a racing movie for a while," the website explains. "The director spent a couple of years developing a movie based on Go Like Hell: Ford, Ferrari and Their Battle for Speed and Glory at Le Mans, written by A. J. Baime, for Fox. Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were circling, but ultimately the project spun off the track and Kosinski moved on."

The next Gran Turismo game is Gran Turismo 7 for PlayStation 4, which Yamauchi expects will launch in either 2015 or 2016.
