LGBTQ-friendly game convention seeking funds for 2014 event

Organizers behind GaymerX2--the second annual convention that celebrates the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer gaming community--have launched a Kickstarter campaign to help raise funds for the upcoming 2014 event.

The purpose of the Kickstarter is to help the group pay the $10,000 deposit required to reserve San Francisco's InterContinental hotel, where GaymerX2 will be held. If all goes to plan, the event will take place July 11-13 at the hotel. It is an 18+ only event.

At press time, funding stands at $7,693 from 92 backers with 32 days to go.

The three-day event will focus on celebrating diversity and inclusivity in gaming and will feature a range of panels and talks with developers and LGBTQ leaders. Speakers at this year's event include veteran BioWare writer David Gaider, Reddit cofounder Alexis Ohanian, and Darren Young, the first openly gay WWE star.

GaymerX2 will also feature concerts from Virt, 2Mello, and Aethernaut, as well as the wedding of a couple who proposed last year at the first GaymerX. GameSpot editor Kevin VanOrd attended the first GaymerX and you can read his thoughts on the show here.
