Lou Scheimer (October 19, 1928 – October 17, 2013)

We have the unfortunate duty of reporting the passing of Lou Schimer, one of the original founders of the Filmation animation studio.    He was an Emmy and Grammy winning producer as well as being an voice over actor.  He was Executive Producer of  several well known animated series from the Filmation stables  such as: Masters of the Universe, BraveStar and Tarzan, Lord of the Jungle.

Lou graduated from  Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA with a bachelors degree in Fine Arts in 1952.

Some of the characters he voiced included: Orko, Bat-Mite (New Adventure of Batman), Stratos, King Randor and Dumb Donald (Fat Albert).

In the late 1990 Mr Schimer was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and had quadruple bi-pass surgery.    He had been in ill health for the past 3 years.   I had the pleasure of meeting him in 2000 and found him to be a warm, delightful man that loved his work.

He left a lasting legacy of animation that will be enjoyed by many generations to come.    All of us here at AFi are saddened by his passing.
