Mattel’s Back to the Future™ Hoverboard Prop Replica on Sale 12/3!

Before heading out to their holiday break Mattel posted the following news over on MattyCollector.com:

Back to the Future™ Fans,

If you missed your chance to pre-order, we can’t send you back in time… but your future is looking good! We’ll have a small amount of Hoverboard prop replicas available for sale on Monday, December 3rd at 9:00 a.m. PT (12 noon ET). These Hoverboards will be priced at $130 each, and will not include the exclusive mini-Hoverboard offered with the pre-orders. Make sure you transport yourself to MattyCollector.com bright and early because we expect this limited quantity of Hoverboards to fly outta here!

Developed in conjunction with the original films’ special effects supervisor, Michael Lantieri, prop maker/special effects expert, Mary Anne Lantieri, and the co-producer and co-writer of the trilogy, Bob Gale, and fully sanctioned by Universal Studios, this is a 1:1 scale model (measures approximately 28″ x 8″ x 3″). Our Hoverboard is based on the best features of the more than 30 slight variations of Hoverboard props used in the classic film series, and includes authentic “whooshing” sounds sampled directly from the films and a deco featuring Mattel logos just like in the films. And although full hovering technology isn’t expected until 2015, be assured your Hoverboard will gently glide over most level surfaces (it will not, however, work on water).

A special note for you smart time-travelers who did pre-order: your Hoverboards are gliding toward our warehouse right now and are expected to be on their way to you around December 1st, along with your exclusive mini-Hoverboard! Watch for an email with all the details advising you that your card is going to be charged.

Remember, the future is what you make of it, so if you’d like the chance to get a Hoverboard, mark your calendar for Monday, December 3rd, 2012, at 9 a.m. PT (12 noon ET). And if you want an email reminder sent right to your inbox, click here to register.
