MLG changes 2014 Anaheim dates to avoid DreamHack overlap

Major League Gaming adjusts dates for 2014 event so it no longer conflicts with Sweden-based competition.

Major League Gaming has changed its previously announced 2014 Anaheim dates to avoid overlap with the DreamHack festival.

“We’ve adjusted our dates to avoid overlap with DreamHack,” MLG executive vice president Adam Apicella said on Twitter. “The MLG Championship in Anaheim, CA, will take place June 20-22, 2014. We are working closely with our friends at Dreamhack to best support our fans and competitors. #Esports. #Wegetit.”

Sweden-based event and tournament organizer DreamHack will be holding its annual summer event from June 14-17 in Jonkoping, Sweden. While neither organization has announced the games for its 2014 competitions, StarCraft II and Valve’s Dota 2 have potential for overlap.

“We are very happy and grateful. This benefits both DH and MLG but more importantly it benefits the audience and all the fans,” DreamHack CEO Robert Ohlen said.

This year’s MLG Anaheim Spring Championships, held at the Anaheim Convention Center, broke previous event records with more than 21,000 attendees over the course of the weekend. The event featured professional tournaments in Blizzard’s StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, Riot Games’ League of Legends, and Treyarch’s Call of Duty: Black Ops II.
