New Song: Sky Ferreira, ‘Everything Is Embarrassing’

Sky Ferreira's "Everything Is Embarrassing" makes heartbreak sound beautiful.

We HAD to take notice when Sky Ferreira released her brand-new tune, "Everything Is Embarrassing," because really -- what could Sky possibly have to be self-conscious about!? The ethereal electropop singer has done "everything," including star in a Terry Richardson-directed video with Garbage's Shirley Manson and solidify her it-girl status by appearing with with Grimes and Charli XCX on the cover of V Magazine.

Listen to Sky Ferreira's "Everything Is Embarrassing" after the jump.

Opening with a set of quick, echoing drumbeats, "Everything Is Embarrassing" almost gets us thinking that we're listening to a peppy '80s-esque love song (think: Debbie Gibson). But just when you're feeling fooled (and ready to visit the mall), the song changes course with melodramatic piano notes and Ferreira's haunting vocals.

Much unlike "Red Lips," Ferreira has replaced her precocious synth-pop with a slow, vulnerable melody -- especially in the lyrics. When the chorus hits, we learn what Sky feels frustrated over a failing relationship: "Maybe if you let me be your lover/Maybe if you tried then I would not bother/Could have been my anything/Now everything's embarrassing."

Basically, Sky has taken one of the most relatable, heart-shattering moments in a relationship and turned it into a stunning song. After listening, we pretty much feel like slow-dancing with the person we LOVE but are inevitably about to break up with. IT HURTS SO GOOD!

Now that we've all shared in the heartbreak together, we can't wait to listen to the rest of Sky Ferreira's upcoming EP Ghost, dropping Oct. 2.
