Twenty | One | Pilots get experimental in their new video for "Holding On To You."

Remember when we told you about the genre-spanning abilities of Columbus-based duo Twenty | One | Pilots? Yeah, we definitely spent a minute or two headbanging, skanking, and shimmying down our cubicle row to their electrifying track "Holding On To You." Appearing as the lead single on Twenty | One | Pilots' upcoming album, Vessel (dropping Jan. 8), the boys have just released the song's brand-new video, and trust us when we say that the clip is every bit as experimental as the band's musical output.

Masters at combining rock, hip-hop, and electronica, it only makes sense that Twenty | One | Pilots would release such a visually engaging clip. The video opens with both band members (lead vocalist Tyler Joseph and drummer Josh Dun) standing in black-and-white surroundings while a group of interpretive dancers in skeleton makeup whirl around them. We soon discover that the interpretive dancers play a major role in the video, surrounding the band members and pulling at them -- there's even a scene where they've got Tyler strung up in a noose in an extremely uneven game of tug-of-war. (Clearly, the dancers are a metaphor for something: perhaps regaining control over oneself?) The lyrics would certainly agree: "I'm taking over my body, back in control, no more shotty/ I bet a lot of me was lost/ 't's uncrossed and 'i's undotted/ I fought it a lot and it seems a lot like flesh is all I got." Metaphor or not, Twenty | One | Pilots definitely get an "A" for "Imagination."
