‘Smash’ + Foals Release Albums; Fall Out Boy Hits ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ On Wednesday

Welcome to Buzzworthy's "The Week In Pop," where we round up new album releases, talk show musical guests, and TV performances by your favorite pop stars and more (so you don't have to).

This week, the cast of "Smash" releases Bombshell: The New Marilyn Musical From Smash with songs featured on the show from stars Katharine McPhee and Megan Hilty, plus guest star Nick Jonas. Also U.K. quintet Foals drop their third album, Holy Fire, and Matt Costa leaves sunny SoCal and heads to Scotland for his eponymous orchestral pop affair. On TV, Fall Out Boy hit Wednesday's "Jimmy Kimmel Live," where they'll likely play their first TV performance since returning from hiatus (happy early Valentine's Day to us!). The week caps off with Alabama Shakes taking the musical stage on "Saturday Night Live."

"Smash" and Foals release albums, while Fall Out Boy appears on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in The Week In Pop.

NEW ALBUM RELEASES

+ Various Artists, Bombshell: The New Marilyn Musical From Smash: Culled from the fictional Marilyn Monroe musical "Bombshell" on the TV show "Smash," the album features 22 songs from the show, along with liner notes that explain the play's plot. It features "Smash" stars Katharine McPhee (as Karen) and Megan Hilty (as Ivy), and also includes singing collabos with recurring guest Bernadette Peters ("At Your Feet," "Hang The Moon") and Nick Jonas who guest stars as the wealthy heartthrob actor Lyle West ("I Never Met A Wolf Who Didn't Love To Howl").

+ FoalsHoly Fire: On the U.K.-based group's third album, they broadened their sound with sonic experimentation that included boiling bones and recording bees. There's also more personal lyric themes, according to frontman Yannis Philippakis in an interview with MTV Hive. The dancey "My Number" recalls their early kinetic tunes, but leans more pop than offbeat angular, while the funk-vibed "Inhaler" is buoyed by arena-worthy massive guitars. Also check out the slow-burning "Late Night" and skittery "Milk & Black Spiders," where grooved-up sprawling beginnings erupt in shout-along choruses.

Check out more new album releases, upcoming TV appearances, and performances after the jump.

+ Matt CostaMatt Costa: For his fourth album, the Orange County singer-songwriter augmented his sound with lush orchestral pop, enlisting Belle And Sebastian's Stevie Jackson, Chris Geddes, and Bobby Kildea for the 10-song set. Produced by Belle And Sebastian/Mogwai collaborator Tony Doogan, the album was recorded in Scotland and has a vintage, timeless vibe. Check out "Good Times," "Shotgun," and the romantic "Ophelia."
