Sony unveils teen-horror-style game Until Dawn

Publisher debuts 2013 PS3-exclusive horror game that uses PlayStation Move; new projects Rain and Puppeteer also in development.

Today during Sony's Gamescom 2012 media briefing, the company announced Until Dawn, a new teen-horror-style game from Supermassive Games. The game makes use of Sony's PlayStation Move controller and will be available in 2013.

In the game, players will take on the role of multiple characters and must fight to stay alive through a night fraught with danger. The PlayStation Move controller will be used in a "totally natural" way, according to Supermassive Games. The controller will act as a flashlight, illuminating pathways in the darkness.

Supermassive Games said it has been working with Hollywood writers and TV talent on the project for "a while now," though no names were mentioned. The classic teen-horror game aims to offer a "shocking" and "twisted" story.

In addition to Until Dawn, Sony announced games titled Rain and Puppeteer during its briefing today. Rain is a product of Sony's Japan Studio, and its story focuses on an invisible boy whose form is exposed by the world's ever-present rain. No release date or platform availability was announced for Rain, and that name is currently a working title.

Lastly, Puppeteer is a PlayStation 3 platformer that casts players as a boy-turned-puppet. He must traverse a magical theater in an effort to reclaim his soul and travel home again. Puppeteer is in development at Sony's Japan outfit, and more details are to arrive "soon."
