You can now play an early, in-development version of Sony's post-apocalyptic zombie MMO H1Z1 through Steam Early Access. The game is available on the PC platform starting at $20.

Similar to DayZ, Sony's H1Z1 challenges players to survive in a hostile world, fighting against not only other players, but also environmental factors such as starvation, weather, and animals.

Players can join a number of different H1Z1 servers, including: Player vs. Player, Player vs. Environment, Head Shots Only, Hardcore, and First-Person only. Sony also plans to test private servers through Steam Access, allowing players to create unique rulesets and more.

These private servers will be initially available by invitation only, though Sony said it plans to expand their availability later on.

The in-development version of H1Z1 available now on Steam includes crafting, base building, combat, vehicles, circle-of-death, day/night cycle, weather, player vitals, hunting and forging, and zombies. The game will expand with new features and functionality over time.

Sony stresses that the version of H1Z1 available on Steam Early Access does not represent the final edition of the game, which will be free-to-play.

"Early access isn't for everyone and it's fair to say you're paying for something that isn't finished, is buggy, and rough around the edges," Sony explained.

In addition, Sony has announced a partnership with Brendan Greene, the creator of the extreme survival mod Battle Royale, for a dedicated Battle Royale H1Z1 server. "Battle Royale plunges players into a bloody last man standing game-mode, where the only goal is to survive to the end," Sony writes.

H1Z1 players can join the Battle Royale server by acquiring Event Tickets, which can be purchased with real money or earned via gameplay.

Throughout the course of the Early Access period, H1Z1 players are encourage to give feedback for Sony at the game's official Reddit page and/or forums.

H1Z1 is also coming to PlayStation 4, though Sony has not yet announced a release date for that version of the game. For more on H1Z1, check out GameSpot's previous coverage.
