Tearaway new game from LittleBigPlanet creators

Media Molecule adventure game for PlayStation Vita lets players cut, fold, and push through world made of folded paper.

Media Molecule's newest adventure will unfold on PlayStation Vita--in more ways than one. Tearaway, a new game slated for 2013 from the LittleBigPlanet developer takes place in world made entirely of folded paper. PS Vita's several input methods allow players to directly interact with the game, as shown in a live demonstration at its Gamescom 2012 debut today.

The reveal from Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans demonstrated a number of ways to interact with the game. "Paper is just amazing, you can tell stories with it, you can fold it, you can draw on it," Evans said. While the game's protagonist, Iota, is controlled with the Vita's thumbsticks and buttons, the player can directly affect the world with the game's front and rear touch sensors.

"The idea here is we have godly powers," Evans said. The demonstration showed the player's fingers erupting through the game's landscape and knocking around enemies, as controlled by the rear touch pad. The front touch pad allowed for more subtle interaction with in-game objects.

Tearaway also uses the Vita's gyrometers to upend the environment and its camera, to insert players and their surroundings into the game world. Stay tuned to GameSpot for more news from Gamescom.
