The Star Of Get Out Is Making A Barney Movie

Daniel Kaluuya is primarily known for his roles in Black Panther, Skins, or his starring role in Jordan Peele's horror movie Get Out. Now, he is working with his newly formed 59% banner, Mattel Films, and Valparaiso Pictures to make a live-action Barney the dinosaur movie.

The puppet dino, most known for his earworm of a song "I love you, you love me," will hit the big screens in the near future, according to Variety. But don't expect this to be the same song and dance routine that many fans grew up with. "Working with Daniel Kaluuya will enable us to take a completely new approach to Barney that will surprise audiences and subvert expectations," said Mattel Films' Robbie Brenner. "The project will speak to the nostalgia of the brand in a way that will resonate with adults, while entertaining today's kids."

The giant purple dinosaur was seen in numerous home videos before spinning out into his own TV series in 1992, Barney & Friends. The series ran until 2009 and spawned numerous, theatrically released movies. "Barney was a ubiquitous figure in many of our childhoods, then he disappeared into the shadows, left misunderstood," said Kaluuya. "We're excited to explore this compelling modern-day hero and see if his message of 'I love you, you love me' can stand the test of time."

No announcement as of this writing of when the movie will hit theaters. Mattel is pushing forward on new movies and TV series, with the most notable being the He-Man anime for Netflix. Additionally, there are Barbie and Hot Wheels movies in the works as well. He-Man will also be returning in a new feature-length film from Sony, but it seems as though that will be headed to Netflix.
