Oddworld dev wants to remake Metal Gear Solid 1

Just Add Water writes open letter to Hideo Kojima explaining why British studio would be well suited for the project.

British developer Just Add Water, the team behind Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD, has written an open letter to Hideo Kojima explaining why the studio is "ideally positioned" to remake the original Metal Gear Solid.

"We at Just Add Water feel ideally positioned to do the remake justice for several reasons:

1: We have experience working with legendary IP (Oddworld Inhabitants) and treating the subject matter with the respect it deserves.

2: Many members of our team are huge Metal Gear fans, with very good knowledge of the source material.

3: We really, really want to do it."

The company directed Kojima to its high-definition update of Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and its in-development re-creation of Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee--titled Oddworld: new 'n' Tasty--as evidence of its abilities.

"We eagerly await your response," the company said.

The proposition is genuine and sincere, the developer explained. "We wouldn't offer if we weren't sincere. We have some big fans here," the company added.

Just Add Water's letter to Kojima is not an out-of-the-blue offer. Kojima recently said over Twitter that though he is not actively looking to remake Metal Gear Solid, he does have interest in the idea.

"Well, if there's some creator or team in this world who has love and passion to remake 'MGS1', I would love to ask for it," he said.

Kaz Hirai made $1.6 million last year – Report

Sony CEO compensation for year that saw first profit in five years revealed in government filing.

Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai made ¥153 million ($1.6 million) in annual compensation for the past financial year, a period that saw the PlayStation maker post its first profit in five years.

That figure is up 74 percent from the ¥88 million ($900,000) he earned for the previous financial year, when he served as executive deputy president.

The figures were revealed in a company filing with Japan's Finance Ministry obtained by Bloomberg. The document also shows that former vice chairman Ryoji Chubachi received ¥194 million ($1.9 million) following his retirement last week.

By comparison, Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick made $8.33 million during the company's most recent financial year.

Hirai, a Sony veteran, was promoted to CEO last February. He joined Sony in 1984 as part of its music group. In 1995, he transferred to Sony Computer Entertainment America, where he was instrumental in launching both the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3, and he eventually became its president and CEO.

In a 2006 management shake-up, Hirai replaced Ken Kutaragi as president of Sony Computer Entertainment International, where he helped turn around the then-money-losing PlayStation business.

The PlayStation 4 launches this holiday for $399/€399/£349.
