Hamburg attack was by 'failed asylum seeker' who shouted 'Allahu Akbar'

Hamburg attack was by 'failed asylum seeker' who shouted 'Allahu Akbar'A man shouting "Allahu Akbar" stabbed to death one person and wounded six others in a supermarket in the German city of Hamburg on Friday. The attacker, who was born in the United Arab Emirates, was overpowered by passers-by and arrested. Olaf Scholz, the mayor of Hamburg, said the attack had been motivated by "hate" and added that the suspected attacker was a failed asylum seeker whose deportation had been blocked because he lacked identity papers. Map: Hamburg supermarket attack "I am outraged by the vicious attack that killed at least one Hamburger today," he said. "It makes me especially angry that the perpetrator appears to be a person who claimed protection in Germany and then turned his hate against us." Citing security sources, Berlin newspaper Der Tagesspiegel reported that the 26-year-old perpetrator was known to police as an Islamist. News agency DPA reported that security authorities were investigating evidence the man had Salafist ties. The attacker stabbed to death a 50-year-old man believed to be a German citizen Police said that he "struck out wildly" at others, wounding five more in the supermarket - a 50-year-old woman and four men aged 19, 56, 57 and 64. Another 35-year-old man was hurt while overpowering the attacker in the street alongside other passers-by shortly after the killing. All of the wounded were being treated or operated on in hospital, some of them for serious injuries, police said. German daily Bild published a picture of the attacker in the back of a police car with a white, blood-soaked bag over his head, and reported that he cried "Allahu Akbar" (God is Greatest) during the attack. "Suddenly I saw a man smeared with blood running along the other side of the road with a knife," an eyewitness identified as Ralf W. told Bild. "He shouted out 'Allahu Akbar' as he was running." A female witness standing in line at the supermarket till also told NTV rolling news channel that "as he was running out... he held up his arms and shouted 'Allahu Akbar'." "I thought I was in a horror movie, I thought he would kill me," an unnamed woman who had been in the supermarket told rolling news channel NTV. She said she feared she would die, as she was "queueing for the till and couldn't get away". But "people were running after him with improvised weapons, chairs and sticks... they ran after him into a side street," Ralf W. told Bild. "People chased after the killer with chairs, they were throwing them at him," bakery worker Shaylin Roettmer told DPA. The witnesses slightly injured the attacker while they were overpowering him, before handing him over to police. Anti-terror officers armed with automatic weapons patrolled the scene and onlookers gathered behind strips of red-and-white police tape. While the attacker's motives remain unknown, Germany has been on high alert about the threat of a jihadist attack, especially since last December's truck rampage through a Berlin Christmas market that killed 12 people. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the carnage in which a Tunisian rejected asylum seeker and ex-convict, Anis Amri, 24, ploughed the stolen truck through a crowd.

Living secretly, for the most part, among their fellow man, the Inhumans forge their own destiny as a separate society. Dig into the history of the Inhumans with these Marvel Unlimited comics in preparation for “Marvel’s Inhumans” heading to IMAX and ABC this fall!

The importance of the Marvel Knights imprint can not be overstated. The Joe Quesada and Jimmy Palmiotti shingle not only created a ton of buzz, thanks in large part to Kevin Smith writing DAREDEVIL, but also shined a light on some under utilized characters including the Inhumans!

What is Marvel Unlimited?

One of the original MK titles, INHUMANS featured writer Paul Jenkins and artist Jae Lee telling a grand and sweeping story that ran for 12 issues between 1998 and 1999. After years of guest spots and back-up stories, the denizens of Attilan regained the spotlight and showed the world exactly why their adventures continue to draw readers in.

The series kicked off with the introduction of young Inhumans just about to go through the Terrigenesis process. The resulting powers and abilities not only alter their appearance, but also their social status, leading to more than a few broken relationships. However, that didn’t stop the first flyer in decades, Tonaja, from enjoying her new role in the Inhuman community.

Not everyone enjoyed the exuberance of youth, though. Black Bolt seemed trepidatious about almost everything while Medusa feared she’d lost her connection to her husband and king. At the same time, Karnak’s abilities showed him that Attilan might just have more weaknesses than expected. And, of course, Maximus the Mad plotted and planned even from his prison cell.

More problems brewed outside of Attilan’s domed borders. Thanks to Maximus’ manipulation of the teleported Woz, he supplied outside forces with technology and plans that would allow them to bring the walls down and invade the mysterious place.

With Maximus’ plans in full swing, internal strife mixed with outside attacks, and gunpowder and explosions both metaphorical and literal blew up all around Attilan. If only Black Bolt would act!

As it turned out, Black Bolt had control of the situation in ways that almost no one expected. In fact, his plan lead to Medusa losing her hair, the manipulation of Gorgon and Triton, war befalling Attilan and the Inhumans’ return to the mountains.

THE INHUMAN CONDITION

In INHUMANS #3, Karnak dropped some incredibly interesting knowledge bombs about Terrigenesis. A scientist named Ultarnt researched the process and came up with some interesting theories. After researching the various changes, she posited  that they actually happen in response to events about to happen. “At times of conflict, the configurations become aggressive,” Karnak said. “When climactic changes occur, our mutations adapt in turn.” Basically, the entire Inhuman race evolves as a puzzle, and if one piece falls away unexpectedly early, that power set will return in the next three years.

Next time we catch up with the Inhumans as they target the Earth after Quicksilver steals Terrigen Crystals to return his missing mutant powers in SON OF M.
