Donald Trump among mourners as 'America's pastor' Billy Graham is laid to rest

Donald Trump among mourners as 'America's pastor' Billy Graham is laid to restThe late Reverend Billy Graham, spearhead of an evangelical Christian movement that touched millions worldwide and who provided spiritual counsel to several US presidents, returned for good to his North Carolina home on Friday. President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence attended the 90-minute funeral along with some 2,000 mourners who gathered to say goodbye to the man who became known as "America's pastor". The ceremony took place at the Billy Graham Library on the family's property in Charlotte, under a broad white tent that harkens back to the "canvas cathedral" in 1949 that helped propel Graham to prominence. "My father's greatest longing has been granted. He's in the presence of God," said son Franklin Graham, one of several relatives to speak. Mr Trump, who attended with First Lady Melania Trump, did not address the gathering, but he sang along to hymns including "To God Be The Glory". As the funeral began, Graham's casket - a simple but elegant plywood pine coffin crafted by inmates at a Louisiana prison - was carried by pallbearers through the library's cross-shaped glass entryway and out to the tent, which was buffeted by strong winds. Graham, who preached in person to more than 200 million people in 85 countries over a decades-long career, and millions more through the power of television, died last week at age 99, leaving a Christian evangelist movement without its best known champion of modern times. puff: billy graham obit Graham was bestowed the rare tribute of laying in honour for two days this week in the US Capitol's Rotunda, where Trump praised him as "an ambassador for Christ who reminded the world of the power of prayer and the gift of God's grace." The onetime backwoods minister was to be buried in the late afternoon at the foot of a cross-shaped brick walkway in the library's prayer garden, next to his late wife Ruth, who died in 2007. More than 100 international dignitaries paid tribute to Graham in Charlotte, including Billy Kim, a Korean pastor and friend who served as Graham's translator in South Korea. Mr Kim said he offered thanks on behalf of Christians worldwide. "Thank you for bringing your salvation message to our part of the world," he said. Graham, with his energetic - some would say aggressive - speaking style, made a robust impact in Asia, and particularly in South Korea, where he held his largest ever "crusade". Some 1.1 million people attended the event's final service, in Seoul in 1973, according to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Graham offered spiritual guidance and friendship to 13 presidents, several of whom prayed with the minister at the White House. His daughter Anne Graham Lotz said her father's death would be as significant as his decades of ministry. "I believe this is a shot across the bow from heaven," she said of Graham's passing. "And I believe God is saying, 'Wake up church. Wake up world. Wake up Anne. Jesus is coming.'"

Flashback Friday: Lockjaw

Every Friday we use the powers of Marvel Unlimited to look back at the very first appearance of a major character, place, or object that made waves this week.

Everyone’s favorite teleporting dog had his day this week with the launch of LOCKJAW #1 by Daniel Kibblesmith and Carlos Villas! And with our hero starting a journey to find his brothers and sisters in that limited series, let’s rewind the tape and see exactly where he got his start.

Lockjaw debuted alongside his fellow Inhumans in 1965’s FANTASTIC FOUR #45. The brainchild of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Inhumans were part of an incredible streak of new creations produced by the engineers of the Marvel Universe around this time. The era also saw the emergence of Silver Surfer, Galactus, Black Panther, Wakanda, and Ulysses Klaue!

Medusa became the first Inhuman to tangle with the Fantastic Four as a member of the Frightful Four, but in the buildup to issue #45, she’d been suffering from amnesia. Her fellow Inhuman, Gorgon, eventually came to the outside world at the behest of King Maximus to find Medusa which, thanks to a series of misunderstandings, led to a fight with the FF.

Meanwhile, back at the Baxter Building, Johnny Storm decided to take a walk in order to forget his romance troubles. His breath of fresh air quickly saw him come across a young woman named Crystal. After Johnny got his flame on, she assumed he was an Inhuman and took him to her secret hideout. There, Crystal introduced Johnny to her friend and companion, Lockjaw! The beast used his head antenna to open a nearby door to their hidden compound, setting the stage for the Torch to meet Medusa, Gorgon, Karnak, and Triton!

Before long, however, the Fantastic Four and the Inhumans got into another fight. This time, the Thing battled Black Bolt to a stand still, until Lockjaw teleported in to hit Grimm himself! This gave the Inhumans enough time to regroup before Lockjaw zapped them away to a safer place.

From there, Lockjaw transported his fellow Inhumans home to Attilan where Black Bolt bested his brother Maximus, taking the throne. The Fantastic Four made a visit, but found themselves on the outside of a seemingly impenetrable barrier. The team got distracted by their adventures with Galactus and Black Panther, but Johnny never stopped pining for Crystal, which eventually led him to look for her.

After Black Bolt broke through the barrier surrounding the Great Refuge, he and his group took shelter in Europe after leaving their homeland. Lockjaw then took Crystal to finally reunite with Johnny, though their love was not realized as they might’ve hoped.

Since then, the Inhuman’s best friend has appeared alongside the group at every turn. Thanks to both his super powers and his adorable manner, Lockjaw has become one of the Marvel Universe’s most beloved companions.

With T’Challa appearing on the big screen again this year in both Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” and “Avengers: Infinity War,” take a look back at over five decades worth of comic book adventures for the King of Wakanda!

Heading to Washington D.C., T’Challa reunited with Monica Lynne while Prey planed to blow up Wakanda’s vibranium mound in BLACK PANTHER: PANTHER’S PREY #3. The newly engaged monarch returned to his nation in BLACK PANTHER: PANTHER’S PREY #4 to put down Prey’s insurrection and defuse his explosives.

Earth’s Mightiest Heroes then called the Panther into service to accompany scientists Hank Pym and Beast to the Blue Area of the Moon in AVENGERS #335 to hunt for the origin of their new, powerful foes, the Brethren. T’Challa and the others entered the Collector’s starship in AVENGERS #336 to find not only a miniature ecosystem ravaged by the escaped Brethren, but also The Watcher in AVENGERS #337.

Doctor Strange Goes Cosmic in New #1

This June, writer Mark Waid and artist Jesus Saiz are set for a journey across the universe in DOCTOR STRANGE #1!

The Eye of Agamotto is closed! Doctor Stephen Strange has lost his connection to the Earth’s arcane power, and he can’t wait to recover while nightmares press against the seams of our reality. Tony Stark offers a 21st-century solution: when astral travel fails, try astronautical travel. Enter Doctor Strange: Space-Explorer Supreme!

Different spells, allies, and enemies—new and old—await Strange beyond the stars, along with corners and secrets of the Marvel Universe, seen here for the first time! Space is endless, but time is short. After years of threats, Stephen’s bill for magic-use is coming due—who will come to collect?!

“I’ve been a Strange fan forever, but I’ve never been lucky enough to write an extended run featuring the good doctor. Along with editor Nick Lowe, we’ve come up with some new and very unexpected places to take Stephen Strange in the Marvel Universe—starting with the stars. When Strange’s magic suddenly exhausts itself, he’ll have to travel off-earth to recharge his batteries,” teases Waid, “Let’s hope he survives the trip.”

And Jesus Saiz shares a similar excitement for the extraordinary adventures to come: “Working on this book is an absolute delight. I’ve always enjoyed depicting bizarre characters in fantastic settings much more than portraying the real world, and in that sense this comic really delivers! I don’t like to use photographic references, as you need to do when you are drawing a particular car, weapon, or specific New York street. I prefer to draw with inspiration directly from my head, and Doctor Strange is the perfect book for that!”

Doctor Strange #1 Cover by Jesus Saiz

The artist continues, “If I have to think about the biggest challenge while working on this book, it’d probably be giving all the different aliens and worlds a distinctive, interesting look. For inspiration, I try to have my eyes very open, because you never know where the could come from. It could be a fashion photo, an undersea creature, or a Bosch painting…everything can give you a silhouette, or a color scheme, or something to start working with. I only try to avoid actual science-fiction images because I want this book to look as fresh as possible.”

“And you know, Mark is simply fantastic,” says Saiz, “I love how, even when he writes the most crazy, outrageous, fantastic scenes, he never loses touch with the characters or the story he is telling. And he really gives you the most wonderful stuff to draw! We’re only getting started with this, and I believe we are both really trying to create a story that nobody will ever forget. We’re taking Doctor Strange from his lowest and giving him a new life, new goals. He’ll have to learn everything again to emerge a better man, a new leader. If he survives this ordeal, that is!”

Read DOCTOR STRANGE #1, by Mark Waid and Jesus Saiz, on June 6! And stay up-to-date with all the exciting announcements coming from Marvel Comics right here!

Start of trial on AT&T, Time Warner merger may be delayed by one day

Start of trial on AT&T, Time Warner merger may be delayed by one dayThe start date for the trial over whether wireless and pay TV provider AT&T Inc can buy Time Warner Inc may be delayed by a day to March 20, Judge Richard Leon said on Friday. Leon, who is on the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, said March 19 may be needed to hear final pre-trial motions so the trial start may be pushed back. The Justice Department's Craig Conrath said he opposed any delay because witnesses travelling to Washington for the trial could be inconvenienced.
