Retailer calls FPS series a “juggernaut and cultural phenomenon”; Activision teams up with Eminem for album discount offer.
Upcoming first-person shooter Call of Duty: Ghosts is poised to be the most preordered game of 2013, according to a statement from GameStop today.
“Call of Duty is an entertainment juggernaut and cultural phenomenon. We are excited for the upcoming release of the new installment of this blockbuster franchise, Call of Duty: Ghosts,” GameStop SVP of merchandising Bob Puzon said.
“We look forward to celebrating the worldwide November launch of this great game that is on track to be the most preordered title of the year,” he added.
In August, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said preorders for Call of Duty: Ghosts were “well below” the record-setting pace of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, though he noted this was not unexpected during a console transition year.
“However, our quantitative consumer research indicates that hesitation amongst past [Call of Duty] preorderers is primarily due to not knowing which platform they will be playing on, which is natural at this time in the console transition,” Hirshberg said at the time.
Activision also announced today a new partnership with GameStop that will see the retailer offer a discounted price for Eminem’s upcoming The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which will be released on November 5 alongside Call of Duty: Ghosts.
Those who preorder Call of Duty: Ghosts at GameStop will receive, at launch, a code that allows them to download a special edition of the new album for $9. The offer is redeemable through Monday, November 19.
“I’m excited to continue to be a part of the franchise,” Eminem said in a statement.
In August, Eminem debuted his new song “Survival” during the Call of Duty: Ghosts multiplayer reveal event in Los Angeles. The singer’s partnership with Activision will continue this month with a new music video trailer featuring the song “Survival” and Call of Duty: Ghosts.
