Overkill Software’s new heist-themed first-person shooter deemed a success; 80 percent of sales were digital.
Overkill Software’s new heist-themed first-person shooter Payday 2 has sold 1.58 million copies and parent company Starbreeze Studios has deemed the game a success.
The news was revealed in a note to investors released this week (translated by Eurogamer), which also points out that 80 percent of total sales, or about 1.26 million copies, were digital.
In August, Starbreeze announced that Payday 2–available on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360–had become profitable based on preorders alone six days ahead of its launch.
The retail version of Payday 2 cracked the NPD’s top-ten sales chart for August, coming in at number eight.
Five expansion packs are currently in development for Payday 2 and will be released throughout the next year. For more on Payday 2, check out GameSpot’s review.
