If Olympic speed skating had Mario Kart rules

With its high speeds and tight turns, Olympic speed skating this year at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games was already pretty exciting to watch. But what if the event had Mario Kart rules? One such filmmaker--Michael Shanks--has presented such an alternate reality in a new video posted to his YouTube account.

Titled the "Sochi 2014 - Speed Skating Double Dash Final," the hilarious video shows what men's speed skating would look like if skaters could lob green shells at one another, strategically place bananas on the course, or get pulled across the rink by Chain Chomps.

Of course, considering how close skaters typically are to one another during speed skating events, the all-powerful blue shell would prove mighty dangerous as the video points out.

The video has nearly 2 million views. The next real Mario Kart game is Mario Kart 8, which launches May 30 for Wii U and probably does not have a track editor.
