Bullseye: Dead Center

There probably exists no better way to put this: Bullseye has to be one of the worst people in the Marvel Universe. However, when he shows us just how bad a dark side he has? Well, that’s Bullseye at his best.

With BULLSEYE #1 close enough—coming February 1, as a matter of fact—we already have hired twice as many bodyguards and sprung for a fancy new panic room, as we look back at why the Man Who Never Misses has us all updating our wills.

Quite a Debut
Daredevil has radar senses. Daredevil has ninja level fighting skills. Daredevil wields his billy club with so much skill it might as well be another appendage.

The first time Bullseye meets him, he puts the Man Without Fear on his back. ‘Nuff said.

Streets of Blood
A brain tumor has Bullseye seeing things, acting irrationally, losing all sense of reality. Things go from bad to worse on a busy Manhattan sidewalk as the snow begins to fall when, to Bulls’ eyes, suddenly everyone has been dressed in the distinctive horns and double D symbols of his archfoe.

The assassin reacts as one would expect, targeting his “enemy” over and over and over. When the dust settles, Bullseye remains standing amongst the bodies of several innocent Manhattanites and tourists, all dead by his hand and whatever happened to be lying around.

On Being Magic
As he succinctly summarizes: Elektra’s good, but Bullseye…he’s magic. And so he proves it, skewering the ninja on her own weapon and sending her to die in the arms of her former lover, Matt Murdock. A fight notable not just for the outcome but for how both combatants, but Bullseye especially, make their ultraviolence look akin to dancing.

Only the Tooth
Bullseye has been arrested and locked away. Buried deep in a super max prison, held in a cell that only has a thin mattress bolted to the floor. His feedings are closely monitored and allow him no utensils. Even for him, a man who can make anything into a weapon, things seem dark as, literally, he has nothing to even try to make use of.

Except, he realizes, himself.

A few brutal self-inflicted head bangs later, the Man Who Can’t Miss knocks out one of his teeth. The tooth proves all he need to kill his way from his cell to freedom.

Bringing America Low
Captain America has a well-deserved reputation as one of the most skilled and intelligent fighters in the Marvel Universe; so when Bullseye encounters the Sentinel of Liberty on a construction site, the situation seems stacked against the assassin. And Cap does get his licks in. However, with only a flashlight and a shovel, Bullseye not only escapes Cap but sends the Star-Spangled Avenger limping away in pain.

Putting a Little Wood on It
Bullseye finds his skills in doubt while meeting with prospective employers. After all, the assassin has experienced some pretty fierce setbacks and beatings over the years. How can he reassure them he remains worth the money? A window, a building across the way, a toothpick, and a young mother prove all the tools he needs.

Proper Disposal of a Flag
Expecting a small dunk, the Thunderbolts find themselves unexpectedly out-thought and out-fought by little known patriotic hero Jack Flag. One by one, Flag has taken them to pain school and left them writhing on the streets and in the alleys. Until, silent, relaxed, Bullseye sneaks up from behind and slides a Sai into Jack’s back, nice as you please, ending the threat and paralyzing the hero for a time.

The Terror That Won’t Die
Everyone knows that while Solo lives, terror dies. Everyone, it seems, except Bullseye. At the time draped in the colors of Hawkeye, Bullseye locked horns with the anti-terrorist. Teleportation, a slew of guns, and a personal army at his disposal, Solo only succeeded in barely surviving the experience and making Bullseye a bit angrier than usual.

Mind Like a Weapon
Trapped in a sort of upright iron lung/sarcophagus with almost no senses and no ability to move, Bullseye has none of his physicality to rely on. The man who could use anything in his hands as a weapon can no longer even use those hands. But he will not be stopped. With no physical options left, Bullseye turns to his own brain, proving, truly, there’s nothing he cannot weaponize.

BULLSEYE #1 from Ed Brisson and Guillermo Sanna hits the mark on February 1!

Marvel Comics Updates Its Digital Code Program and Introduces Bonus Digital Comics

Marvel is proud to announce that, beginning February 2017, all Marvel digital redeem codes found within the pages of Marvel Universe titles will unlock two or more BONUS DIGITAL COMICS on the Marvel Comics app for iPhone®, iPad®, iPhone® and select Android devices* at no additional cost!

Starting this year with Marvel Universe titles (excluding all-ages comics) only available within your local comic shop, the Marvel digital code will upgrade to unlock two or more additional digital Marvel comics – stretching your dollars’ worth!

“Marvel is continuing our commitment by offering our fans the best value in comics along with honoring our corner stone of the comic book industry – the retailers,” said David Gabriel, SVP of Sales, Marvel Publishing. “Our intent in evolving our digital code program is to offer our fans more value per dollar spent.  Replacing the free digital copy, our BONUS DIGITAL COMICS will offer fans free entry points for current on sale collected editions and, in turn, invite additional and repeat traffic into our trusted retailers.”

Beginning February 1, Marvel fans that enter the doors of their local comic retailer will now be rewarded when they purchase Marvel titles with a digital code valid for up to one year that unlocks existing moments into the Marvel Universe they may have missed in the past.

“Marvel will always be a brand that looks to excite our fans as well as drive traffic to our tried-and-true retailers,” said Jim Nausedas, Sales Director, Marvel Publishing. “One of the free BONUS DIGITAL COMICS offered in February will be CIVIL WAR II #0 in time to promote the CIVIL WAR II collection on sale that month. Then, each week, new BONUS DIGITAL COMICS codes, available only in your local comic shop, will offer fans additional pathways into the Marvel Universe, promote Marvel’s monthly trades, and create repeat retailer customers and Marvel readers for life.”bonusdigitalcontentl_0201

Marvel’s BONUS DIGITAL COMICS will be updated weekly with consistent in-print and social messaging so fans know which BONUS DIGITAL COMICS will be made available that week. So find your local comic shop by visiting comicshoplocator.com and get ready to experience new gateways into the Marvel Universe you may have missed in the past available through the comics you already read.

Unstoppable Wasp: Smart Girls Rule

Traditionally, dudes like Reed Richards, Hank Pym, Tony Stark, and Bruce Banner have topped the list of Marvel’s smartest characters.

But times have changed.

Beginning in UNSTOPPABLE WASP #2 on February 1, Nadia Pym will assemble a team of girl geniuses—known as Genius In Action Research Labs, or G.I.R.L—to break into this boys’ club. Writer Jeremy Whitley gives us the scoop on each of these bright young women.

Taina Miranda
“A Puerto Rican character from Washington Heights, New York, Taina has talent as an engineer. She builds robots, working with scrap and salvaged junk, while also facing multiple sclerosis. Taina looks forward to having the money and facilities to make better prototypes. And her sister Alexis first appears in a Hawkeye story I did in A YEAR OF MARVELS.”

LaShayla “Shay” Smith
“A physicist from Brownsville, Brooklyn, Shay has a lot in common with me as a teenager: a Latchkey kid who goes home on her own at the end of the school day. During that time, she works on her science and tends to get in trouble thanks to her work. She has a tendency to blow things up and break things. She currently focuses on teleportation and faster-than-light travel.”

Priya Aggarwal
“Priya, a second-generation Indian American, lives in Queens, specifically Jackson Heights. She specializes in biology, and botany in particular. But she keeps her intelligence largely hidden because she just wants to be a regular kid, and do normal, popular kid stuff. Priya shows reluctance when it comes to joining the group, and Nadia has to persuade her. But we’ll see her come into her own.”

Honorable Mentions
“Lunella Lafayette—aka Moon Girl—will appear in the second and third issues [of UNSTOPPABLE WASP]. We’ll see her around, though she’ll have some other issues of her own that she’ll have to deal with, too. I’ve talked to the creative team on [MOON GIRL AND DEVIL DINOSAUR], and we’d like to do some more crossovers with her.

“We’d love to do some stuff with Riri Williams, as well. We could have a lot of fun putting all of these super-intelligent girls together, and they could get into all sorts of situations.

“G.I.R.L. will also possibly have one other additional member, but she will play a major role in the first story arc, so I don’t want to reveal too much about her yet. One of the big questions of the story will be whether she’ll join the team. This first arc will get pretty intense!”

Join up with the G.I.R.L. gang in UNSTOPPABLE WASP #2 by Jeremy Whitley and Elsa Charretier on February 1!
