The Alan Wake action-horror series has now sold more than 4.5 million copies since it arrived on the scene in 2010, up from 3 million in May 2013. The CEO of developer Remedy Entertainment, Matias Myllyrinne, announced the new sales figure on Twitter earlier today.

That number includes sales of the original game and its 2012 sequel, Alan Wake's American Nightmare.

So is it time for a full-on sequel? Not exactly. Remedy, which is currently working on 2015 Xbox One game Quantum Break, said previously that it could have made a "less ambitious" sequel years ago, but decided against this because it wouldn't have done the series justice. The studio now says it will return to Alan Wake "when the time is right," though there's no indication as to when that might be.

Just recently, however, a Microsoft surveyed asked players if they would be interested in a remastered version of Alan Wake for Xbox One. Interestingly, it specifically asked if a free copy of a remastered version of Alan Wake would make them preorder Quantum Break. Of course, this doesn't confirm that an Xbox One edition of Alan Wake is in the works, but it does show that Microsoft may be at least considering it.
