All IGF finalists to be given Steam deal

Valve to grant finalists of indie game competition opportunity for a distribution deal through digital distribution hub.

Though only one 2013 Independent Games Festival project will take home the Seumas McNally Grand Prize, all finalists in the competition's main categories will receive the opportunity to accept a Steam distribution deal, event organizers announced today.

The 2013 IGF Main Competition is composed of seven categories: the above-mentioned Seumas McNally Grand Prize, as well as awards for excellence in art, design, narrative, technicality, and audio, and the Nuovo Award. The finalists of each category will be granted a Steam deal, making their game available to an installed audience of 50 million members.

There are 587 entries in this year's main competition categories. Finalists will be named sometime in January 2013. The 2013 IGF will be held March 27, 2013, during the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Past IGF finalists and winners include Braid, World of Goo, Super Meat Boy, Minecraft, and Fez.
