Artist Of The Day: Paloma Faith

Kindly add Paloma Faith to the long list of supremely talented artists who are wildly famous in England but (unfathomably) are still somewhat unknown here. (We will never understand.) Paloma, who sounds like a heady mix between Pink, Jessie J and an old '50s-era crooner, got her start singing in local pubs. She notoriously turned down an opportunity to join Amy Winehouse's band in order to take time to hone her craft and write her own material. She landed her own record deal and has been taking the U.K. by storm ever since.

Her multiplatinum U.K.-only debut, Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful? stayed in the top 40 for more than 40 weeks and scored her a whopping six top 10 singles and a 2011 Brit Award nomination for Best British Female Solo Artist. To continue her unstoppable upward trajectory, her brand-new disc, Fall To Grace, just debuted at No. 2 on the U.K. charts.

Paloma Faith's U.S. debut album drops this fall, and she's poised for an Adele-style American takeover, so make some room and plan accordingly. -- Jenna Rubenstein
