Assassin’s Creed movie gets writer

British playwright Michael Lesslie adapting game for silver screen; director and producers still being sought.

The Assassin's Creed movie now has a writer. The Hollywood Reporter reveals New Regency and Ubisoft Motion Pictures have called on British playwright Michael Lesslie to adapt the popular game series for the big screen.

Lesslie penned Prince of Denmark for the theater, a prequel to William Shakespeare's iconic Hamlet. He also wrote a handful of short films, including Skirt and Heavy Metal Drummer.

In addition, New Regency and Ubisoft are still seeking a director and producers for the movie, which could launch as early as later this year.

Michael Fassbender (Shame, Inglourious Basterds) will play the lead role in the film, though other actors for the Assassin's Creed movie have not been announced.
