Bungie warns of Destiny beta scams

Developer says "don't let someone exploit your enthusiasm" regarding just-announced beta for upcoming shooter.

One day after Bungie announced a beta for its upcoming multiplayer game Destiny, the company has warned of scam websites promising access to the pre-release trial period.

"Don't let someone exploit your enthusiasm," Bungie said in a Facebook update. "The only way to guarantee a Beta code is to acquire one from a participating retailer. Accept no substitutes! Bogus websites are starting to spring up."

"You might find Beta codes elsewhere on the Internet," the statement continues. "Just make sure you're dealing with a trusted source."

The beta for Destiny will begin in early 2014 on Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. Gamers can secure access to the beta by preordering the game.

Bungie has remained mum on what the Destiny beta will offer, saying only that it will feature a "diverse sampling of major activities" from the full game.
