Buzzworthy Obsession: Echosmith, ‘Cool Kids’ (VIDEO)

Echosmith would rather not sit at the popular table in their "Cool Kids" video.

It would be an incredible understatement to say that being a teenager, um, SUCKS. I mean, once you get a little older, you realize that you COULD have ignored all that "Mean Girls"-style peer pressure if you'd only known any better (and things really weren't THAT BAD considering that your parents paid all the bills and made you dinner every night... Er, but we digress). The point is that being a teenager DOES suck, but sometimes it's helpful to hear someone call BS on the whole situation -- which is exactly what dark-pop-rock players Echosmith do in their spellbinding "Cool Kids" video.

The Los Angeles band of siblings know a little something about adolescence themselves, seeing as none of them are over 20 --  lead singer Sydney Sierota is 16, guitarist Jamie is 19, bassist Noah is 17, and drummer Graham is 14. They may be on the young side, but that doesn't translate to immaturity.

In Echosmith's poignant "Cool Kids" video, the band introduces a "Heathers"-like scenario where a group of popular kids wander around in the desert, but one of the girls doesn't look quite as enthused to be there. Meanwhile, Echosmith rock out in a dark living room, with Sydney singing, "I wish that I could be like the cool kids/ 'cause all the cool kids, they seem to fit in." Good thing they're being sarcastic! Because you can bet that anyone worth knowing postadolescence was NOT one of the "cool kids."

Check out "Cool Kids" a bit more on Echosmith's downloadable three-song Summer Sampler, look out for their upcoming debut album, and catch them at Vans Warped Tour this summer.
