Carmageddon dev raises $3.5 million

Investment from Bullfrog Productions founder will allow Stainless Games to bring Reincarnation also to next-gen platforms.

Carmageddon: Reincarnation developer Stainless Games today announced a $3.5 million investment from Bullfrog Productions founder Les Edgar. The new funds add to the $625,000 raised through the initial Kickstarter campaign for the vehicular mayhem game last year.

The game was previously slated only for PC, but is now expected to arrive for unspecified next-generation platforms.

"We are delighted to have fully funded Carmageddon: Reincarnation without having to go outside of the collective of our own company, shareholders, and fans," Stainless Games CEO Patrick Buckland said in a statement. "It allows us to maintain a true independence and creative control whilst not having to compromise quality or content by budgetary constraints."

Carmageddon: Reincarnation is currently scheduled to launch in December 2013, though it is not clear if development for next-gen platforms will see that release window pushed back.

Stainless Games released an iOS version of the original Carmageddon last year, while an Android version is in the works.
