Destiny 2 Servers Still Down After Latest Update Steals Bright Dust, Legendary Shards

Update: Bungie tweeted that it thinks it has identified the problem with Destiny 2's latest patch and is testing fixes internally. That fix will hopefully give players their lost currencies back, but the servers are going to stay offline until Bungie manages to fix the problem. We're expecting another update sometime in the next hour.

Original story: Destiny 2's newest patch, Update 2.7.1, does a bunch of housekeeping on Season of Dawn bugs, specifically removing a few Exotic armor exploits that seriously powered up players' damage in PvE activities. Unfortunately, while the update fixed a whole host of issues, it might have introduced a new one that steals your various currencies. Bungie has taken its Destiny 2 servers down for emergency maintenance as it investigates the issue.

According to reports, players are logging into Destiny 2 post-patch and finding their Bright Dust, Glimmer, and Legendary Shard stashes significantly reduced. While Glimmer is a fairly easy resource to come by, it's used for a host of things, like upgrading weapons and attaching mods to weapons and armor. Legendary Shards are a little rarer and specifically required to upgrade weapons and armor, and Bright Dust allows you to purchase premium cosmetic items from the Eververse Store without spending real money--which makes its loss a pretty big deal.

Bungie tweeted that it's aware of the issue and investigating it, but didn't share much more in the way of information on what's going on, or when the issue might be fixed (if it can be fixed at all). But it seems like the problem is a big deal, because Bungie has taken Destiny 2 offline for emergency maintenance.

We'll update this story as more information comes in about the issue and any changes that Bungie might institute to fix it.
