Disney Plus Sets Percy Jackson And The Olympians Series

Disney+ has greenlit a series adaptation of the popular fantasy novels Percy Jackson and the Olympians, according to a release sent out by the streaming service.

The official announcement comes nearly two years after series author Rick Riordan shared in 2020 that he was helping to develop the potential series. Casting is currently underway, and production is expected to begin sometime this summer. Jon Steinberg (Black Sails) co-writing the pilot with James Bobin (The Mysterious Benedict Society) directing. Steinberg will also co-produce the series with Dan Shotz (Black Sails). In addition to a release heralding the announcement, Disney+ also posted a video online of Riordan sharing the news directly, which you can check out below.

"Bringing Rick Riordan's brilliant Percy Jackson books to Disney+ as a television series has been a mission for so many of us at this company,” said Karey Burke, president of 20th Television. "Thanks to our friends at Disney Branded Television led by Ayo [Davis], and Disney Streaming led by Michael [Paull], this will be an adaptation for the ages, with all the excitement, action and mythology fans of the books expect and love."
