Dragon’s Dogma 2 – How To Get The Gigantus I Hardly Knew Ye Achievement

While Dragon's Dogma 2 has a lot of monstrous creatures that you need to eliminate, few can compare to the Gigantus. This massive colossus moves slowly across the water, destroying everything in its path. Still, there's a way to quickly take it out. Here's our guide on how to get the Gigantus I Hardly Knew Ye achievement in Dragon's Dogma 2. Likewise, please be reminded that this article contains spoilers.

How to get the Gigantus I Hardly Knew Ye achievement in Dragon's Dogma 2

The Gigantus I Hardly Knew Ye achievement has this description: "Defeat the Gigantus in a short span of time." This might seem like a tall order, pun intended, given that this gargantuan walking statue poses quite a challenge.

This activity takes place much later in the game once you've completed a quest called A New Godsway. Once you exit the magically sealed doorway south of Bakbattahl, you'll trigger a cutscene where the Gigantus emerges from the sea. It will slowly walk to Agamen Volcanic Island, lumbering to catch Phaesus and his cohorts.

Note: The "normal" way of defeating the Gigantus requires players to destroy multiple crystals that are protruding from its body. This can be done by (a) climbing on its body and limbs to strike the crystals with melee weapons, or (b) shooting the crystals with ballistae. However, this whole process takes a while--you'll find that the Gigantus has already made it halfway across the island by the time it's defeated.

If you dawdle around or take too long, then there's no way you can get the trophy. This is where the Unmaking Arrow comes into play.

Dragonforged and Unmaking Arrow location

If you really want to get the Dragon's Dogma 2 Gigantus I Hardly Knew Ye achievement, you need to obtain the Unmaking Arrow well before you exit the sealed door in Bakbattahl. The Unmaking Arrow is found in two locations:

  • Frontier Shrine - This is the second Sphinx lair, and it's a reward from the Riddle of Recollection. However, you're better off using it on the Sphinx herself so you can get the key to the large treasure chest. You can learn more about this whole part in our Sphinx riddles and solutions guide.
  • Bay Wayside Shrine - To get here, you take the northern exit from Bakbattahl's Residential Ward. Follow the coast until you reach a cave on an isthmus. Inside, you'll find the Dragonforged NPC.

Buying the Unmaking Arrow and making preparations

The Dragonforged NPC sells several goodies, including a reusable Portcrystal. The one that you need, though, is the Unmaking Arrow, a projectile that instantly kills the target. It costs eight Wyrmslife Crystals, which only drop from Drakes and Lesser Dragons that you defeat in the game world.

Moreover, the Unmaking Arrow can only be used by two vocations: the Archer and the Warfarer (the classes that can wield non-magical bows). Be sure you've switched to either of these two vocations and that you have a bow with you prior to advancing to meet the Gigantus.

Taking aim and shooting the Unmaking Arrow

Once you're ready, go through the magically sealed gate in Bakbattahl and continue south. Upon reaching the cliffside area, a cutscene will play that shows the Gigantus emerging from the waters. Do not fire the Unmaking Arrow at this distance since it won't reach the target.

Instead, continue along the coast, sprinting as fast as you can to catch up to it. Once you're within optimal range, open your inventory and equip the Unmaking Arrow. The moment you shoot it, the game will automatically save. Needless to say, you don't want to miss.

You know you landed a good hit because (a) glowing tendrils will erupt from the Gigantus' body, and (b) the large crystals will fall off. But this might surprise you: the damned colossus is still walking!

Ballistae: The last lline of defense

Although the Gigantus' crystals are gone, it will still continue lumbering along the road. Quickly head to the mountain pass and look for the nearest ballista you can use, then make sure the weapon is fully drawn and fire it. If you can land a couple of hits, the Gigantus will finally be defeated.

Achievement unlocked: Gigantus I Hardly Knew Ye

As far as we can tell, you need to prevent this walking statue from destroying the Volcanic Island Camp. Since the first set of ballistae are found along the road leading to it, you should have a clear shot.
