Ecto-Fest Launches on #GhostbustersDay2022

Earlier tonight I attended the first ever Ecto-Fest, a celebration of all things Ghostbusters, at the Sony Pictures lot. Ecto-Fest is not to be confused with Ghostbusters Fan Fest from 2019 which was its own thing. This is similar in spirit (pun intended) but newly branded in order to be an ongoing event.

On arrival I was greeted by inflatable photo-ops and a look at some props from Ghostbusters history.

Below are some Ghostbusters: Afterlife props from the Spengler farm:

More Afterlife props, including Gozer feet:

Props from Ghostbusters (2016) aka Answer the Call:

Probably my favorite prop was the Ghostbusters II slime-blower:

Here’s a look where the Ghostbusters magic happens. The official headquarters of Ghost Corps, located inside a replica of Hook & Ladder 8 on the recently designated Ivan Reitman Way at Sony Studios:

Of course no Ghostbusters celebration would be complete without some tricked out Miller Meteor Cadillacs:

Eventually the evening was kicked off by Winston Zeddemore himself, Ernie Hudson:

He briefly hinted at what was in store for the future of the franchise and then brought up Jenny Whitlock from Hasbro with some toy related updates:

She announced a limited edition Ivan Reitman action figure that went the extra mile by including an exact replica of his megaphone that he used making the first film. She also showed off some updates on the Haslab Proton Pack:

She detailed some of the upcoming features as well as informing backers (many of which I’m sure we’re in attendance, present company included) that the Spengler Notebook that was a tier unlock has been upgraded from 16 pages to 32 pages.

Finally Jason Reitman and co-writer Gil Kenan were brought to the stage with a series of interesting announcements:

The first major announcement was that a feature length animated Ghostbusters film is in development. Little detail was given but I’m very curious and have high expectations for what it could be.

They also announced partnerships with both Dark Horse and Netflix for creating content to expand the Ghostbusters mythos, using comics and animation respectively to bridge gaps in the narrative as well as create new threads. Sadly they did not elaborate on much of the story elements for those projects or the announced sequel to Afterlife. We were teased with the codename for the film: Firehouse and the fact that the story will take place in Manhattan.

I had missed out on Fan Fest in 2019 so I was happy to attend Ecto-Fest and hope to be a regular. Looking forward to all the new Ghostbusters doings? How did you celebrate Ghostbusters Day?
