Every Atrocious Bucket Hat In Netflix’s Woodstock ’99 Docuseries, Trainwreck

If you're old enough to remember Woodstock '99, you're definitely old enough to remember the chaos that ensued as hundreds of thousands of rowdy concert-goers became upset with the conditions of the festival, and essentially turned the entire affair into a massive riot--mosh pits, fires, buildings torn apart, and semi-trucks burned to the ground.

Netflix's new docuseries, Trainwreck: Woodstock '99 captures the mayhem well, shedding light on what caused things to go horribly wrong. The answer depends on who you ask. If you ask the promoters, it was troublemakers in the crowd. If you ask practically anyone else on the planet, they will likely point their fingers at the promoters themselves.

Something else the docuseries sheds light on, though, is a very bad fashion choice of the time. Practically everyone at the festival seems to either be wearing a bucket hat or standing next to someone wearing a bucket hat. Seriously. In fact, there were so many bucket hats to be found throughout the three-episode documentary that we had to catalog them all.

Join us on this trip back to the weirdest and worst part of 1999 as Woodstock '99 goes up in flames but not without hundreds of bucket hats to light the way.

1. A sea of bucket hats

Seen in: Episode 1

It might be hard to tell given the quality of the video and how many people are smashed in here together, but after looking extensively, there are tons of bucket hats in this crowd. Truly, it was the fashion statement of 1999, for worse or worse. That wasn't a typo. There's nothing "better" about it.

Also, we should note that there will be plenty of massive crowd shots with bucket hats strewn throughout. It would be impossible to note them all, so consider this a catch-all.

2. Photobombing bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 1

This guy, in the smart combination of a bucket hat and a baseball jersey, clearly just wants to be in this shot with the girls. Congratulations, you trailblazer. You did it.

3. Disposable camera and bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 1

This woman is the perfect encapsulation of 1999. Not only is she wearing a bucket hat, but she's got a disposable camera to capture her bucket-hatted memories. Remember disposable cameras?

4. The chill bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 1

Everyone around him is rocking out, but this fine gentleman doesn't seem remotely excited. In fact, we can't tell if he's even actually happy to be there. Maybe he secretly hates Limp Bizkit. And don't think we don't see the woman in the green bucket hat behind him.

5. Talking head bucket hats

Seen in: Episode 1

You're going to see this background a lot throughout the series and it would be impossible to note all of the bucket hats. Clearly, there are billions, though.

6. Overly excited bucket hats

Some people don't even wear them, they just wave them around because they're just so proud to be that trendy.

7. Mosh pit bucket hats

It should come as no surprise that many of the dudes slamming into each other are wearing bucket hats.

There's not a lot of context for some of these bucket hats, but we appreciate this guy wearing one that matches his tank top.

This guy went in another direction, wearing one that definitely doesn't match his jersey.

19. We love a purple bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 1

It's hard not to appreciate the variety of colors of bucket hats brought to Woodstock '99. In fact, we're curious if there are actually branded Woodstock '99 bucket hats for sale somewhere.

20. The iconic bucket hat/overalls combo

Seen in: Episode 1

Is there a more 1999 look that doesn't involve Fred Durst?

21. Even the man wears bucket hats

Seen in: Episode 1

It's not just those attending the festival wearing the coolest head covering of all time. Even the security officers (Ahem, Peace Patrol) are sporting the look.

22. Bucket hat picnic

Seen in: Episode 1

Once inside, what are you going to do with your bucket hat but find a spot on the hard ground to relax and have a snack until the show starts?

23. Red Hot Bucket Hat

Seen in: Episode 1

Yes, that is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. And yes, it looks like Anthony Kiedis is wearing a bucket hat with the brim popped up. We can't be sure, as this is just a press photo but we're taking it as a win.

24. Patiently waiting for James Brown bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 1

This young lady and her bucket hat seem very chill as they wait for James Brown to take the stage, officially kicking off the festival.

25. Woven bucket hats

What are these made of? Your guess is as good as ours. Maybe hemp? Whatever the case, good on these two for standing out in a sea of regular bucket hats.

26. Camouflage bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 1

Unless we're mistaken, this is a black and white camouflage bucket hat. Did you know people wore a startling amount of camo in the late '90s?

Again, it's hard to hate someone who matches their bucket hat to the rest of their ensemble.

This guy couldn't help but shove his face and bucket hat into the camera at one of the many (many) beer vendors.

29. Drug deal bucket hat

During the part of the episode where attendees discuss the open drug market at the festival, we see this very cool guy watching such a deal go down while smoking and drinking beer. This bucket hat is the king of Woodstock '99.

30. Bucket hat phone home

Seen in: Episode 1

A bucket hat and a pay phone in one shot? This photo could be in a history textbook.

31. Naked bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 1

If you're wondering why this photo is cropped the way it is, that's because the only clothing this guy is wearing is a bucket hat and a pair of sandals. No, he's not wearing a bucket hat over his crotch, but that's not a bad idea.

32. Painting in a bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 1

Leave it to a bucket hat to save an artist painting the peace wall from getting sun in their eyes.

33. More peace patrol bucket hats

Seen in: Episode 1

This dapper gent flipped up the front of his bucket hat brim, making for a very cool look.

34. Even we don't know about this bucket hat

Even the Tibetan monks have members of bucket hat nation showing up for their demonstrations.

Seen in: Episode 1

This hero is delivering soda to the festival site, with creates upon crates of Coca-Cola--and he's doing it in a pretty spiffy bucket hat.

40. Rave bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 2

If you're going to a rave, a regular old bucket hat won't do. It's gotta be camo and the brim has to be folded up. We should also note that this is the only piece of clothing that particular raver seems to be wearing.

41. Glow stick bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 2

If you're at a rave and you don't have a proper rave bucket hat (see above), then just wrap a glow stick necklace around it. The rest will take care of itself.

42. Bucket hat making out

Seen in: Episode 2

There really were a lot of bucket hats in the rave warehouse or whatever it was called. This guy is alternating between his lollipop and making out with a woman. We wonder if those crazy kids are still together today (probably not).

43. Passed out on an American flag bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 2

This one really speaks for itself, if we're being honest.

44. Disgusted at the lack of a clean bathroom bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 2

This is the bucket hat that introduces us to the reality that everyone at Woodstock '99 was living in filth. It wasn't pretty and it smelled even worse. But this bucket hat remains strong.

45. A meeting of the bucket hat minds

Seen in: Episode 2

What's better than one bucket hat near the porta potties overflowing with human waste? How about two of them, talking about how gross their living conditions are?

46. On-camera bucket hat

This guy is shooting some kind of remote broadcast and is undoubtedly talking about his love for Limp Bizkit.

47. Garbage picnic bucket hats

Seen in: Episode 2

We see three bucket hats in this group of friends relaxing among a spread of garbage. It's not surprising how much of a mess was made at Woodstock '99. Likewise, it's not that surprising how fine people seemed to be with it.

This bucket-hatted fool and his buddy knocked over an art installation, giving bucket hats everywhere a bad name.

Seen in: Episode 2 That's right, it wasn't just filthy, the sun was also beating down on everyone, leading people to se

Seen in: Episode 2

The docuseries spends a lot of time focusing on how bad conditions got, and rightfully so! It was incredibly disgusting. It's sad to see all these bucket hats in such poor conditions.

51. Bucket hat heat

Seen in: Episode 2

That's right, it wasn't just filthy, the sun was also beating down on everyone, leading people to seek out whatever shade they could find. Of course, those with bucket hats had the shade built-in.

52. Kid Rock's muscle's bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 2

Kid Rock wears a fedora and a fur coat because he's whatever 1999 considered "cool" to be. His security guard, though, wears a white bucket hat to match his fedora.

53. Hawaiian shirt and a bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 2

We are genuinely surprised it took this long for this particular combination to appear at Woodstock '99.

54. Grateful Dead bucket hat

It should come as no surprise whatsoever that this guy is taking part in a drum circle.

55. Limp bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 2

This particular bucket hat isn't technically at Woodstock '99, but it is being worn by Fred Durst, so it can't be left out. Thanks to the producers of this docuseries for including it.

56. Bucket hat that takes the mosh pit too seriously

Seen in: Episode 2

During Limp Bizkit's set things went off the rails, which should have been expected given their big song at the time was called "Break Stuff." But it led to an even more vicious mosh pit, among other bits of destruction. But with that, we get this fellow in an Adidas bucket hat harshly shoving someone to the ground, which feels very in line with the peace and love ethos of Woodstock.

57. Stage dive bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 2

In addition to the mosh pits, there was also stage diving off of plywood, which is a truly ridiculous visual. Thanks to this guy for wearing a bright yellow bucket hat, making him easy to spot.

58. Rave hangar gone wrong bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 2

After Limp Bizkit's set, it was time for Fatboy Slim in the rave hangar, but as good as this silhouetted bucket hat is, the set itself was a disaster. What you can't see is it looks as if she's dancing on a van that was commandeered and driven into the rave venue.

59. Bucket hat on the run

Seen in: Episode 3

As Day 3 kicks off, many people are sick of how badly the festival has fallen apart and decide to head home before the festivities are over--including this guy using his bucket hat to balance his tent on his head as he heads off-site.

60. Death to the peace wall bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 3

With the festival falling apart, several angry concertgoers--including this guy in the blue and white bucket hat--decided to help out by ripping down the "peace wall" erected to keep those who didn't buy tickets out of Woodstock '99. Maybe calling it a peace wall wasn't a great idea.

61. Nightfall day three bucket hat

Seen in: Episode 3

The beginning of the end is what this particular bucket hat signifies. As the sun set on day three, surely those in attendance didn't realize the festival would literally be set on fire by night's end.

62. A bucket hat to sum it all up

Seen in: Episode 3

This photo says it all about how Woodstock '99 ended, with everything in flames--except the bucket hats.

63. These bucket hats are enjoying this too much

Seen in: Episode 3

These guys call what's happening Lord of the Flies. We're going to call it a bunch of angry youths setting things on fire.

64. The final nail in the bucket hat coffin

Seen in: Episode 3

The last bucket hat in the series is worn by this guy, casually just breaking things, fed up with what Woodstock '99 was versus what the promise of it was.
