Every Upcoming Streaming Service, And What We Know About Them

When it comes to streaming services, we already have plenty of choices. Between Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu, subscribers can choose between movies, TV shows, and original programming. Then, there are more niche services like AMC's horror-themed Shudder, offering up premium original content and classic movies.

However, there is a war brewing on the horizon. Companies are fighting over content, like Netflix swooping up Seinfeld for some serious cash. And to top that all off, between 2019 and 2020, there are seven more major streaming services headed to market, each offering a unique take on a familiar part of most of our daily lives. Home entertainment has quickly evolved and companies are trying their best to play a game of catchup when they're already years behind the pack.

From Apple's upcoming and highly derivatively-named Apple TV+ to the most anticipated streaming service of 2019 Disney+ to lesser-known services like Discovery/BBC and Quibi, we have the information you need about all of these services.

Check out everything coming out in the next year and what you can expect from each service.

Apple TV+

What is it?: Apple's new streaming service is trying to take the wind out of the highly-anticipated Disney+'s sails by launching 11 days before Disney's service. The focus of Apple TV+ is squarely on original series, and while there have been two events showing off upcoming original series, Apple TV+--as a whole--is still pretty mysterious. There seems to be no back catalogue of content, only originals.

Launch Date: November 1

Price: $5 per month

Originals of Note: See starring Jason Moma, The Morning Show, Steven Spielberg's Amazing Stories, Little America

Highlighted Content: To be determined. At this point, it seems like Apple TV+ will only consist of original series and films.

Disney+

What is it?: Disney's streaming service, offering up plenty of new original series as well as Disney, Star Wars, Marvel, and Pixar movies and television shows. Disney could eventually include more from the Fox catalogue the company recently purchased as well.

Launch Date: November 12 in US, Canada, Netherlands, on November 17 in Australia and New Zealand, and for Europe and Asia, it will roll out between November 2019 and October 2020.

Price: $7 per month or bundled with ESPN+ and Hulu for $13 per month

Originals of Note: The Mandalorian, Hawkeye, Obi-Wan Kenobi, She-Hulk, Loki, and a lot more.

Highlighted Content: The Disney vault--including all the classic animated movies--Marvel movies, Pixar movies, Star Wars movies, and plenty of well-known animated series. This includes all 30 seasons of The Simpsons, launching on day one.

Peacock

What is it?: One of the possible Netflix killers, Peacock is NBC's long-awaited new streaming service. It will contain NBCUniversal TV shows, movies, and originals, combining properties from NBC, USA Network, Universal Pictures, Dreamworks, Telemundo, and more.

Launch Date: April 2020

Price: Unknown, but their will be both ad-supported and ad-free tiers.

Originals of Note: Battlestar Galactica and Saved By The Bell reboots. There are also rumors that The Office may be getting a reboot as well.

Highlighted Content: TV shows like The Office, 30 Rock, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Married…With Children, Monk, Psych, Saturday Night Live, and more. There is also a solid movie foundation featuring E.T., the Fast & Furious films, Bridesmaids, Back to the Future, and a whole lot more. 15,000 hours of content will be available at launch.

Other notes: NBC's first service, Seeso, featured classic NBC sitcoms, late night talk shows, and original programming shut down its doors in November 2017 after 22 months running. It was beloved by fans, and hopefully, some of the original content from Seeso finds new life on Peacock.

HBO Max

What is it?: It's WarnerMedia's upcoming service, focussing on the deep catalogue from HBO, Warner Bros., and The CW. There are some original series planned, but as of this writing, the information for the upcoming service is slim, and the focus seems to be on the back catalogue.

Launch Date: Spring 2020

Price: $15 per month, according to a recent report.

Originals of Note: Gremlins animated series, Dune series, and JJ Abrams has signed a deal to create content for the service.

Highlighted Content: Friends, Big Bang Theory, CW series, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones. There will also be plenty of movies as well, including Wonder Woman and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

AT&T TV

What is it?: A wolf in sheep's clothing for cord cutters. It's a lot like Sling, giving users the ability to stream live TV. There is cloud DVR, and aside from an app, streaming boxes will also be available. It's essentially a streaming cable service from a cable company. For cord cutters, this is not the way to go.

Launch Date: It's rolling out now, and will be available nationwide by the end of 2019.

Price: It's a multi-tiered system, like cable. There are also hidden fees as well. The price ranges from $60 a month to $80 with a two-year contract. However, after the first year, the $60 a month package jumps to $93 a month and the $80 package jumps to $135 a month. There is also a $20 activation fee and early termination fees. You can see the full list of channel options here, and check out CNET's breakdown of AT&T TV.

Originals of Note: None as of this writing, and there probably won't be any.

Highlighted Content: Local broadcast channels may not be available. You'll have to check availability here before you purchase.

Discovery/BBC

What is it?: BBC and Discovery are teaming up to focus on what they call "factual programming." Many series you're familiar with will be streamable on this service.

Launch Date: 2020

Price: $5 per month (That is an expected price, not confirmed)

Originals of Note: None announced yet

Highlighted Content: Planet Earth, Blue Planet, Life, Dynasties, Mythbusters, Deadliest Catch, Shark Week, and more.

Quibi

What is it?: Quibi's focus is on short-form storytelling, around 10-minute videos. The service will focus exclusively on content developed to view on mobile devices. Quibi has some big names attached to it, like Steven Spielberg. The goal is to reach Millennials and Generation-Z.

Launch Date: April 6, 2020

Price: $5 with ads/$8 without ads (per month)

Originals of Note: None revealed yet

Highlighted Content: Steven Spielberg is attached.
