Multidimensional platform indie game Fez has sold 200,000 units on Xbox Live since its release a year ago, according to an announcement on developer Polytron“s blog.

Fez had a long and storied development. Initially announced in 2009 with a projection to be released the following year, the game was later pushed to 2012.

In February, Fez won the Seumas McNally Grand Prize award at the 2012 Independent Games Festival. Fish was also one of the developers featured in the award-winning Indie Game: The Movie documentary.

Fez is a 2D platformer built entirely using Microsoft's XNA tools in an 8-bit pixel art style. The game also adds a third dimension and lets players rotate the game world around the protagonist, Gomez. The game is expected to be released on PC on May 1 via digital distribution platform Steam.
