Check out our favorite female acts playing Lollapalooza 2013!

Lollapalooza kicks off today -- don't miss sets from our favorite females.

It's midsummer, and you know what that means! NO, not back-to-school ads (would you stop with those? We're still in bathing suits over here!). It means OUTDOOR MUSIC FESTIVALS! There's no shortage of opportunities to drink beer, get a wicked sunburn and take peace-sign selfies while testing the furthermost limits of your eardrums, but you've gotta admit that there's only one Lollapalooza, the world-famous three-day music festival originally conceived and created by alt-rock king and former Jane's Addiction frontman Perry Farrell. And while we'd love to wax poetic about the festival's history, we're actually here to talk about the ladieeesssss of 2013 Lollapalooza.

In honor of today's official Lolla kickoff (the entire fest runs from Aug. 2 to Aug. 4 at Chicago's Grant Park), here's an up close and personal look at our favorite females on the Lollapalooza 2013 lineup, from electro-pop songstress Ellie Goulding to hooky-as-hell Haim.

Ellie Goulding will perform at Lollapalooza 2013.

1.) Ellie Goulding: Despite heart-racing recent releases like "Burn," we feel like everyone still mostly knows Ellie Goulding as "the 'Lights' singer" -- which basically means people don't really know her at all, even though that smash hit was on the Billboard Hot 100 for more than a year. Hopefully taking to the Lolla stage will change all that. But, if we could offer some advice to Ms. Goulding (BECAUSE WE'RE SURE SHE'S WAITING WITH BATED BREATH!), we'd tell her to just pull a J.K. Rowling! You may never top your most iconic hit numbers-wise, so just go out there and have fun! We know we will. -- JW
