How Marvel’s Echo Might Have Perfectly Set Up Daredevil: Born Again

Warning: This contains spoilers for Echo.

Marvel may have done a bit more than meets the eye in its recently released show, Echo. During the mid-credits scene of its final episode, we see a defeated Kingpin watching a news report of two people talking about how New York City's mayoral election is up for grabs. As the scene ends, it's heavily hinted that Wilson Fisk will enter the race and attempt to run for Mayor.

In the Marvel comics, a major story arc known as Devil's Reign aligns with Echo's adaptation of Wilson Fisk seeking power through political means. In the six-issue run that was written by Chip Zdarsky in 2021, Fisk becomes the mayor of New York City and, in doing so, outlaws superheroes. To enforce this law, Fisk deputizes supervillains, and this causes the earth's mightiest heroes to go into hiding. As the story goes on, it's revealed that Fisk was able to sway people into voting for him and his bills through some questionable manners. This eventually leads to a major clash between the Avengers, which is partially led by Daredevil at the time, and Fisk, who is backed by his army of villains.
