League of Legends Season 3 European Playoffs at Gamescom

Evil Geniuses, Fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Lemondogs, Gambit Gaming, and Team Alternate reach playoffs at German event, facing off for $100,000 and three spots at the World Championships.

Six European League of Legends teams have made it to the Season 3 playoffs at Gamescom, facing off for $100,000 and three spots at the World Championships.

Evil Geniuses, Fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Lemondogs, Gambit Gaming, and Team Alternate are the six teams competing, with players from all over Europe including Sweden, Russia, Germany, France, Spain, and Poland.

"This year is going to be bigger than ever with every single day now being sold out for visitors," League of Legends caster for the Electronic Sports League Joe Miller told GameSpot. "The League of Legends Championship Series is loved here in Europe and I expect that the stage will be standing room only from opening till closing every single day."

"In terms of the playoffs, it's clearly a very open race when you look at how the Summer Split developed. Lemondogs will be the big favorites coming in but honestly any of the six teams could be taking the spots for the World Championship. It is the hardest-to-call League of Legends tournament to date, and it's something that every fan will want to tune in for!"

The first day of competition has already seen two teams eliminated, with Evil Geniuses coming back against Alternate, and Gambit Gaming sweeping Ninjas in Pyjamas. The semifinals will now see EG going up against Fnatic, with Gambit Gaming facing off against Lemondogs.

"We know how good Gambit can be when they commit, and if there was ever a time it's now," said LCS host Eefje "sjokz" Depoortere. "They've been on that world stage last year, and they're back to show the world that they have what it takes to take down the international competition."

Lithuanian team GamingGear.eu defeated Brazil's Pain Gaming in the Wildcard Tournament to earn a spot at the Season 3 World Championships.

The live broadcast and schedule can be watched on the official LCS website. GameSpot eSports is live at the LCS Finals at Gamescom and will be providing coverage all weekend long.
