Mattel Confirms There Will Be No 2015 DC Total Heroes Ultra Figures on Matty

Mattel has tried several time to supplement existing DC Comics lines that are at retail with more obscure characters by selling them directly to collectors on MattyCollector.com.  They tried it with the JUL 4-packs and the DCUC 2-packs and they have tried it again with their DC Total Heroes line.  None of those those line extensions connected with DC collectors and ended after their first years.

For DC Total Heroes Ultra they went pretty conservative and only did 4 quarterly figures… that did not do well in terms of sales.

This week Mattel confirmed what we all suspected since we did not see any Ultra figures at SDCC earlier this month.

In a post this week on the official MattyCollector message boards Mark15 asks: Will there be any Total Heroes Ultra figures on Matty in 2015? I was expecting something at SDCC.

ToyGuru replied the same day saying:  No, the line has not sold well enough for a 2015 line and will conclude with Firestorm. We can only make figures when there are enough customers to buy them!

That means we will still get the last two Ultra figures, Batman Beyond and Firestorm, and the regular retail line will continue, but these Ultra sets of more obscure characters are done after 2014.   We saw several new characters shown at SDCC for 2015 including Hawkman, Riddler and Steel.

It’s a real shame because the Ultra figures have been the nicest ones in the line.  I think the Batman Beyond figure, which was one I was looking forward the least, turned out to be my favorite in the whole line.

After those last two on-line figures DC Total Heroes will be at retail only.
