Here we have an early look at the November 2012 figure for Mattel’s DC Club Infinite Earths subscription – Uncle Sam and Doll Man.

Uncle Sam first appeared in National Comics #1 (July, 1940), which was published by Quality Comics during the Golden Age of Comic Books. He was depicted as a mystical being who was originally the spirit of a slain patriotic soldier from the American Revolutionary War, and who now appears in the world whenever his country needs him. The character was used for a few years from 1940 to 1944, briefly receiving its own series, Uncle Sam Quarterly. During this time, he had a non-costumed sidekick named Buddy (Buddy Smith).

DC Comics acquired the character as part of its acquisition of the Quality characters in the 1950s, and he was used as a supporting character in Justice League of America in the 1970s. This established Uncle Sam as the leader of the Freedom Fighters, a team of former Quality characters that briefly received its own title.[1] This team was initially based on a parallel world called Earth-X, where World War II had lasted into the 1970s. – Wikipedia.org

My country tis of thee, sweet land of liberty… answering the call of duty whenever he’s needed, the spirit of the stars and stripes lives on in Uncle Sam, the most patriotic Freedom Fighter of all! From fighting evil in WWII to facing today’s threats, he stands strong and proud, a symbol of everything that is good and just about the United States. This fully-articulated 6” figure arrives in his iconic red striped pants, white shirt, blue jacket, and star-spangled hat. Also included is fellow Freedom Fighter Doll Man, “the World’s Mightiest Mite.”

Uncle Sam uses the DCUC Joker buck (or more accurately the Gentlemen Ghost bust as he was released first).   This is more of the modern Uncle Sam with the longer hair, first introduced in the Alex Ross Vertigo miniseries.  Uncle Sam has the exact same articulation as the Joker figure.  His hat is not removable.

Some fans raised concern that giving us Uncle Sam in the sub starts a team, the ‘Freedom Fighters’ that Mattel will most likely not finish.  But Uncle Sam and all the Freedom Fighters also rolled up as members of “The All-Star Squadron”, which encompassed most of the DC Universe pre-Crisis.

The Doll Man mini-igure is a solid PVC with no articulation.  He’s larger than the Atom and Elasti-Girl minifigures we have gotten in the line.
