Mikami’s next game not coming this year – Report

Bethesda-owned Tango Gameworks remains in hiring mode for first project from Resident Evil creator.

Gamers eagerly awaiting the first title from Shinji Mikami's Tango Gameworks should get comfortable, as the Resident Evil creator's latest project won't be out this year.

Mikami's comments on the game came as part of a recent interview with Japanese-language gaming site 4Gamer (relayed by Andria Sang). In that interview, he had nothing specific to say about the game, noting only that it was being built on a licensed, although heavily modified, game engine.

As for Tango Gameworks, which was acquired by Bethesda Softworks parent company ZeniMax Media in 2010, Mikami said the studio has just the one project in development and is currently staffed by about 65 people. He went on to note that the studio is still hiring, with the goal of getting headcount up to around 100.

Mikami expects Tango Gameworks' first project to be the last one he directs. Beyond Capcom's Resident Evil franchise, the game maker has held creative-lead roles on Platinum Games' Vanquish and Grasshopper Manufacture's Shadows of the Damned.
