Minecraft’s May 9 debut to cap XBLA ‘Arcade Next’

Microsoft's spring downloadable game promotion to include Fable Heroes launching May 2, Trials Evolution on April 18, Bloodforge on April 25.

Minecraft will finally arrive on the Xbox 360 May 9. Microsoft today confirmed that the hit PC game will headline its next Xbox Live Arcade seasonal promotion and detailed launch plans for Trials Evolution, Bloodforge, and Fable Heroes.

The Arcade Next spring downloadable game drive will kick off April 18 with the release of Trials Evolution, the latest motorcycle obstacle course offering from RedLynx. Following up on the developer's previous XBLA effort Trials HD, Evolution will include outdoor environments, customizable bikes, and the ability to build and share new tracks. Trials Evolution will sell for 1,200 Microsoft points ($15).

Climax's Bloodforge is the second game in Arcade Next, set for an April 25 debut. A gore-drenched action game, Bloodforge follows the warrior Crom on his quest for vengeance against the demons and gods who killed his family. Rated M for Mature, Bloodforge will be available for 1,200 Microsoft points ($15).

The third title in Arcade Next is Fable Heroes, the first Lionhead Studios release since Peter Molyneux's departure from the development house. Scheduled for a May 2 launch, Fable Heroes is a hack-and-slash action game that supports four players through competitive and cooperative modes playable locally or across Xbox Live. Players will fight familiar foes of Albion together, while competing with friends to collect the most gold coins along the way. Fable Heroes will be the least expensive of the Arcade Next offerings, selling for 800 Microsoft points ($10).

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition will anchor the lineup debuting May 9 with a 1,600 Microsoft point ($20) price attached. Already a phenomenal success on the PC, Mojang's open-world construction game will add Kinect support via a postlaunch patch. Development of the port is being handled by 4J Studios, the outfit behind Xbox 360 versions of Perfect Dark and the Banjo-Kazooie games.
