MTV Artist To Watch: Timeflies

Check out MTV's latest Artist To Watch: Timeflies

Meet MTV's latest Artist To Watch: electo-pop wunderkinds Timeflies.

Producer Rob Resnick and vocalist Cal Shapiro (aka Timeflies) have truly mastered the art of genre-bending. Are they a little pop? Yes. A little electro? Absolutely. Top that off with a hefty dose of hip-hop and tinges of R&B, and you've got an infectious, club-ready sound that's completely slaying the pop music game right now. Oh, and by the way, you can also thank us later for naming Timeflies one of our Favorite Breakthrough Artists of 2012, because you're gonna feel mad cool when they become One Direction-famous in 2013. Trust us.

Cal and Rob initially formed Timeflies at -- wait for it -- college (so cute!), but the guys were into music way before hitting the hallowed university halls. Rob got his feet wet building a Pro Tools studio in his basement to record his high school bands, and Cal, a singer since childhood, used to love attending summer camp music festivals. (A rocker at SUMMER CAMP!! AHHHHH.) After high school, Both Rez and Cal attended Boston's prestigious Tufts University where they were members of a funk/soul band called The Ride. After a few incarnations, the musically inclined besties decided to form Timeflies, and a the rest is, well, an eponymous EP that landed at the No. 1 spot on iTunes. BOOM.

Now signed to Island Def Jam (the bros were notoriously unsigned for a minute there), Cal and Rez have been spending the past year performing sold-out shows (including their concert to benefit the victims of the Boston Marathon Bombings), playing MTV's "Artist To Watch" showcase and hitting up the 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards. And, in between all that touring, the guys somehow found time to release a bastion of dope music videos like "I Choose U" and "Swoon." Oh, and let's not forget to pay a brief tribute to "Timeflies Tuesdays," a weekly YouTube event where the bros release viral freestyle rap songs, remixes, and covers every Tuesday night (see their take on Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" and Kansas' "Wayward Son").

Nowadays, Timeflies are in the midst of planning their next North American tour and (please?!) recording a new album. No, seriously, if you want us to generate a petition for a new album, or even hold a private listening party in our apartment, let us know. Down for either!
