The films are both a spin-off and also prequels to the original Harry Potter films, inspired by the 2001 guide book of the same name by author J. K. Rowling. The films come just in advance of the second sequel, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, which hits stateside theaters on April 15. (It also comes weeks after Daniel Radcliffe also let it be known that, for now, he doesn't want to do any more Harry Potter projects.)
