New Song: fun., ‘Sight Of The Sun’

Listen to fun.'s exclusive "Girls" track, "Sight Of The Sun."

Is HBO's Girls one of your favorite televised dramatic programs? Do you also enjoy, on occasion, the popular musical stylings of such artists as Robyn (obv) and Icona Pop? The answer to all of those questions, it's pretty safe to assume, since you're a person reading a music blog on the internet (you are a person and not a weird blog-combing robot of some sort right?), is yes. If that's the case, then you better add fun.'s new track "Sight Of The Sun" to your synergized cultural branding overlap to-do list, stat.

Listen to fun.'s "Sight Of The Sun" after the jump.

"Sight Of The Sun," which is slated to appear on the Girls soundtrack, and follows on the heels of this banging grinder from Santigold, captures the melancholy feel of the show's young people falling in and out of love theme. "The city outside is nothing but a flicker now/ You see your friends to bed, you turn out the lights/ I start to think you'd make a beautiful mother, I like to think of everything I want from this life," frontman Nate Ruess sings in a weary voice over swooning strings.

The song, Ruess told Rolling Stone, was meant to originally appear on their breakthrough record, Some Nights, but was held back due to clearing the right for a sample. "I ended up rewriting the chorus and actually like it better than the sample now!" he said. Even though the track would have fit in perfectly alongside "We Are Young," we couldn't be gladder that "Sight Of The Sun" has found a good home on the "Girls" soundtrack. (Especially since fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff is dating "Girls" creator Lena Dunham. Fate, y'know?)
